I was walking back to his room when a maid much older than me approached me. She was the same woman who gave me the towels in the morning, "Are you alright?" She asked. Something about the way she looked at me reminded me of my late grandma. I shook my head and her face saddened as she pulled me into a hug. I rested my head on her shoulder and cried, "It's all so confusing." I said, and she rubbed my back. "He isn't listening to what I want."
"It's not my place to say nor will it justify his actions towards you, but I do believe he loves you." She said. I pulled away and wiped my tears, "You're the first woman I've seen him do anything for." She began. "He hasn't even told me he loves me." I told her.
"Come." She says, taking my hand. I followed her to a sector of the mansion I had not yet seen. she walked me into a built in library and sat me down on one of the sofas. "I've known him since his mother brought him home from the hospital." She said, walking to a hidden shelf, buried behind other boxes and old books. She pulled out a photo frame and came back to me.
"Before he could turn one his mother ran away with one of his fathers close business partners. She had told Taehyung's father repeatedly that she needed space and that he was slowly choking her by keeping her locked in here." She explained.
"Taehyung's father was well known for what he did and who he killed. He had many enemies which meant his loved ones were never safe. His mother was continuously surrounded by security and having a child only placed pressure on the situation. The man who took Taehyung's mother away offered her freedom and so she left." I sat listening to her whilst staring at the picture of Taehyung in his mothers arms, his father was absent. "Where is his mother now?" I asked.
"Taehyung's father eventually hunted them down and killed the man." She said. "And his mother?" I added.
"She killed herself with his own gun."
My eyes widened. "And three days later, Taehyung's father committed suicide." She continued, "Taehyung had turned three and since then I've taken care of him. His father had people to control the business after his death until Taehyung reached the appropriate age."
I did not know how to react, "So there's no escape for me. We're simply reliving his parents tragic love story." I said.
She shook her head, "He's trying, Rai." She said. "He's trying to not be his father."
I placed the frame down, "I think it's too late for us." I replied. "I was healing in my time away. I thought I was finally over him, but fate had something else planned for me."
"What about your family, dear?" She asked and I looked at her, "I'm surprised you don't know."
"Taehyung may know everything about you, but we don't. He keeps his personal life private, sometimes he doesn't speak a word to me or the staff."
"According to Kira he does more than speak." I mumbled and she heard. "Stay away from Kira." She warned. "She is deluded and wants nothing but trouble for you."
"But why me?" I asked.
"Because Mr Kim only sees you." She answered.
"Will it be okay if you lend me a sleeping pill?" She hesitated before nodding. "Whatever you need for some rest, you look exhausted." She told me.
_______
I shuffled in my sleep and eventually woke up after what felt like many hours, many peaceful hours. When I had regained consciousness I saw Taehyung sat beside me on the edge of the bed, staring at the empty packet of sleeping pills in his hand.
