The next morning:
Rai, oh my God, wake up- look what came for you!" Giselle yelled from across the house. She has a loud voice- I groaned lowly and forced myself out of bed which was the place I planned to spend my entire birthday morning. "What?" I yawned, rubbing my face as I approached her. When I opened my eyes her face was hidden behind a humongous bouquet of red roses.
"Look how pretty" she said, leaning to the side to see me. "What does the note say?" I asked, walking closer. She handed me the white square note: "Happy Birthday, Rai."
"Throw them away." I said, flicking the note from my fingers. She stared at me like I was insane. "You don't think they're from him, do you?" She asked. "Giselle, of course they are." I then showed her the note. She shoved my hand away and turned towards the cabinets behind her. "That could be from anyone. Perhaps a secret admirer from work." She said, filling a vase with water. "The bouquet is ridiculously large- there's no way they're all going to fit in that." I told her. She ignored me and began picking out five roses at a time before dropping them into the water.
"I would love for someone to do this for me, Rai." She sighed, admiring the flowers in front of her.
I sat down on one of the stools and leant my elbows on the counter. "They're yours. I don't need or want flowers."
"Are you taking a day off?" She asked.
"Nope, I'm working full hours- on purpose." I replied. She groaned, "You're difficult."
"We can go out for dinner?" I suggested which put a smile on her face, "deal." She said, nodding.

When I entered the restaurant the staff instantly surrounded me, wishing me a happy birthday. I wasn't used to this kind of stuff. Normally my dad and I would celebrate it alone together. "Thank you." I laughed, accepted their hugs. "But how did you guys remember?" I asked.
"It's in the birthday book." One said. Oh right, I had forgotten about that. When I became a staff member that was the first thing I was told to fill out. I walked into the kitchen to see Xavier wiping the counter. "Hm, you didn't wish me." I teased, tying the black apron around my waist. He stopped to look up at me. "You didn't get my flowers?" He asked, raising a brow
My eyes widened slightly. "That was you?"
He bit his lip before laughing at me. What?
"I was lying- however I am surprised you did actually get flowers."
I rolled my eyes, "Jerk." I mumbled.
"Okay, okay- I'm sorry?" He scoffed, walking up to me. I cupped my ear and frowned, "What was that? I couldn't hear what you just said." I teased.
He sighed, stopping in front of me, "Rai, I said I'm sorry."
"Huh?" I leant forward and he suddenly grabbed my wrist, pulling my hand away from my ear. He then lowered his mouth and whispered, "Must I whisper it into your ear for you to hear me?" My cheeks flushed and he moved away enough for him to see my face. "What?" He then asks, studying my features, my lips in particular. "Did you think I was going to kiss you?"
I shook my head and he raised a brow. "But your face is red." He remarks.
I cleared my throat, "Tha-that is because it is hot in here." I shoved his chest and he rolled his eyes before releasing my wrist.
