•the next day•
"And this should be it.." My dad trailed off as we turned a corner and caught view of Yatsley High. It was so different to how I'd imagined it. The main building looked old and had ivy trailing along the walls. But then as we parked up in the car park I noticed two modern looking buildings. Staring around in awe, I realised we weren't the only people in the car park. There were already at least ten cars parked up and more arriving every minute. Some were teachers but most were families dropping their children off.
"Where do we go?" I looked around for signs but couldn't see a single one. My mum and dad also looked confused.
Almost as if by magic, a muscly brunette, not much taller then me coughed nervously to get everyone's attention. While he was waiting for a few people to be quiet he looked down nervously.
"All new students need to follow me and I'll take them to their rooms," he said quickly. Before I'd even said bye to my parents he was off walking towards the main building."Love you Pippa," my mum kissed my cheek quickly as I swatted her away and groaned. "Sorry am I embarrassing you?" Her and my dad giggled as I mentally face palmed myself. Great way to make a first impression.
"Bye guys," I mumbled and followed after the shy boy. I glanced back around when I got to the main building to see my parents driving off. The ball in my throat stiffened as I realised how much i'd miss them.
"Forget about them, they've probably already forgotten you," a pale dark haired girl spat at me. She was new as well, carrying two suitcases and an expensive bag. I tried to ignore her comment and act like I didn't care but inside I started to wonder if what she was saying was the truth.
"Shut up Emily," this was the first time I'd heard the shy boy be confident. 'Emily' glared at the boy and flounced off to the other end of the crowd.
"Just ignore her," he shrugged like I hadn't already been doing that. "I'm Zack by the way.." He smiled shyly."Well Zack I think you've forgotten about the one thing you're meant to be doing right now.." I smirked. He tilted his head, confused. "Showing everyone to their room?" I shook my head and started to laugh as Zack's cheeks burned pink.
"Oh yeah I forgot about that," he looked around at the crowd behind him and bit his lip.
"I'm Pippa by the way," I smiled sweetly as he started to tell people to go inside the building. Everyone squeezed through the door into the reception of the school where a tall, thin lady was waiting with a clipboard. She turned suddenly when she saw us all and glared at Zack.
"You're early," she stated.
"Sorry miss-" he started but was stopped by a wave of her hand. Slowly her eyes flickered over each of us like an eagle would to its prey.
"Welcome to Yatsley high," she said finally. "Give me your names and I'll tell you where your dorm room is situated." She paused for a lifetime and then finally continued. "Then Zack and Jack will escort you to-"
This time it was Zack who interrupted. "Jack is still in bed miss.."
She glared at Zack as if it was his fault. "Well go wake him!"
Zack scurried off as the women sighed and tapped her clipboard. While waiting for him to return she ran through the boring information about school rules and other stuff like that.
"I'm here everyone, don't worry," a tall boy staggered into the room, his eyes half shut, followed by Zack."Jack," she sighed and then thought better of it. "Take Jessica, Ila, Pippa, Daniel, Jason and Rian to their rooms please. I stared at the boy, he had black hair but the front part was dyed a white/blonde colour. He was skinny but not in a bad way and a smirk was plastered across his face.
"Take a picture it'll last longer.." He said quietly as he looked me directly in the eyes.
