"If I say random things will that help you remember your room number?" Alex leant against the wall looking exhausted when in reality all we had done was wander round the girl's building.
"No!" I exclaimed, "that'll just confuse me more."
Alex rolled his eyes like this was all my fault, which it kind of was. Still he could have left by now if he was that bothered.
"Why don't you just come back to mine?" He smirked and pushed himself off the wall so that he could approach me. I chuckled lightly at his confidence and pushed his chest so that he staggered backwards.
"Come on, don't pretend you don't want to." He winked and tried to approach again. This time I didn't stop him. Part of me wondered how he could be so confident around someone he had just met and the other wondered if he did this sort of thing to lots of girls. The second thing seemed quite likely."I think my room number started with a 4..?" I tried to change the subject slyly without Alex noticing. He just groaned and walked back towards the wall.
"I swear I have never met a girl as forgetful as you," He hit his head off of the wall after every word and groaned again. "My brain hurts now."
"What brain?" I mocked and quickly took off down the corridor. I knew what was coming.
"What did you say!" Alex yelled and galloped after me. I turned to see him only a meter away from me with a smirk so big I couldn't help smiling myself.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" I begged and turned my body to face Alex. He shook his head and grabbed my arms. "Alex please.."
"Emily come look at this.." Me and Alex turned our heads at identical times towards the voice. A tanned girl with dark hair was leaning against the frame of a door, smirking as a face I wish I had never met appeared behind her. "Is that her?" The tanned girl whispered to Emily.
"Yeah that's her alright," Emily didn't even bother whispering. Instead she marched towards us slowly with the other girl trailing at her heels. How come Emily had so many people licking her butt all of a sudden.
"Hey Lex," she flashed a sickly sweet smile at Alex then shot me an icy glare. Since when has anyone called Alex 'Lex'. More importantly, since when had Emily known Alex.
On the bright side, Alex didn't look exactly thrilled to see Emily."Hi Emily," Alex bit his lip and looked down to the ground.
"So Lex what are you doing in here?" She twirled a strand of brown hair around her finger, totally ignoring the fact I was there.
"Just helping Pippa find her room," he tightened his grip on my arms and smiled at me. Emily looked like she wanted to throw me out of the closest window.
"How.. Nice," she spoke through gritted teeth with her fists bared. Making her angry was actually enjoyable for me, for once the tables had turned. I moved closer to Alex and slung my arm around his waist which obviously infuriated her more. "So are you two going to the party thing on Friday?" She spoke quickly, finally acknowledging the fact that it wasn't just Alex stood in front of her. Because of my arm around the waist idea, I'd distracted Alex from Emily's question.
Finally he submerged back to reality and shrugged, "doubt it.""Why don't you come with me?" Emily pounced on the opportunity like a cat to a mouse.
"I don't really go to the school parties," Alex emphasised the word school. I let out a deep breath that I didn't realise I'd been holding. At least Alex wouldn't see me with Zack and get the wrong idea.
"Why are you breathing funny?" Alex hissed not quiet enough. Everyone's eyes were locked onto me.I stuttered and bit my lip, much to Emily's amusement, "it's a bit dusty in here don't you think." I finally decided on. Alex threw me a bewildered look which I returned with a shrug.
"What about you Pippa? Are you going to the party?" The other girl who had so far been silent throughout the awkward conversation smirked. And not in a good way. She knew. I could tell from the glint in her eye that she knew she'd caught me out.
"Yeah I think I might be going with a few friends," I answered honestly. The glint disappeared from the girl's eyes. Ha 1 - 0 to me. Nobody tries to catch me out that easily and gets away with it. Says the girl who can't touch spiders..
"Which friends are you going with?" Alex ran a hand through his messy hair.
"Just Yasmin and Zack."
"What?" Alex's jaw dropped. "You're friends with them." He looked confused and angry. I didn't understand why though.
"I thought you knew I was friends with Yasmin?" I removed my arm from Alex's waist. He didn't deserve it there, the way he was acting right now.
"I thought she was just showing you around, do you not know the shit she's caused for me and Jack? Especially Jack. And Zack.. Don't even get me started on Zack," Alex was furious, I'm surprised smoke wasn't clouding out of his ears already.
"More like the shit he's caused for her!" I protested, "and what the hell has Zack done?"
"Why don't you just go ask him yourself?" Alex grunted and with a final long last stare at me he turned and walked away. I stared open mouthed at the space where Alex had been, trying to take in what had just happened. It must be a dream. All of this must be a dream.. And I'll wake up at home in bed. I told this to myself over and over inside my head until I actually believed it.
"Well Tanya I think we should have brought popcorn," Emily smiled triumphantly at 'Tanya' and headed back towards her room. "I'm warning you Pippa, don't even think about trying it on with him again, or you'll have me to deal with." And with that Emily slammed the door, leaving me stunned into silence. Which doesn't happen often, believe me.
