Chapter 2 - Smitten
Four very long hours later, I was heading back to their dressing room. I'd like to say the other artists I worked with in between had been as nice but they definitely hadn't, ranging from bored to annoying and rude. I hadn't even had a chance to eat lunch and as I looked at my watch, the fact it was only almost 3pm made me realise it was going to be a very long day.
A smile broke out on my face though as I knocked loudly on the door to be heard over the noise coming from inside, sounds of voices and singing. As a staff member opened the door, I raised my eyebrows. Two of the group were on the floor, locked in what looked like a wrestling competition while the rest watched on, encouraging or discouraging them, I couldn't tell. The staff member just rolled their eyes as if to say, this is normal and I laughed. "So, everyone is ready for the dance practice then?"
My English seemed to drift over their noise and they looked up, the two on the floor scrambling to their feet, looking a little sheepish. It turned out to be Jungkook and a tall one who looked a bit older than him, Jungkook blushing at getting caught.
"Ah, we all have a little extra energy," Namjoon said, explaining the chaos and I nodded, clearly that was true. "But we're ready, aren't we?" The other members nodded, quickly finishing what they were doing and joining him at the door. All of them had smiles and greetings for me, even Jungkook although he did touch his ears and look away when our eyes met.
"Great, well I've been told the set is ready so you have your final rehearsal for today and then another full dress rehearsal tomorrow before the ceremony."
Namjoon quickly translated and we all set out again. I felt more dishevelled now than I had when I had met them earlier, glancing in a mirror as I raced past and seeing my hair starting to unravel from it's bun. I'd tried my best to tidy it up while I'd kept walking but I could feel it starting to slip again. This time as we neared the roadway, everyone preempted my stopping, placing themselves back from me so we didn't pile up like last time. As I turned my head from side to side, my hair fell free and the claw clip, that had been anchoring my hair to my head, dropped to the ground with a clang. Before I had a chance to reach for it, several of the members had already done it for me, one of them handing it to me with a small bow of his head.
"Do you need help," he asked, handing it to me.
I shook my head no as I twisted my hair in a loop, holding it against my head as I opened the clip to secure it in place, making sure no stray hairs were hanging down. I felt like everyone was watching me and when I glanced, I was embarrassed to see they were as I checked to see if it was going to hold.
"It looks good," the same man said, long earrings hanging down.
"Thank you, Jimin is it?"
He looked startled at the use of his name and I smiled. "I looked you all up while you were practising earlier. And, you said you were going to talk to me this afternoon. Did you win the bet? Maybe you guys have forgotten, I understand a little Korean." He flushed but held his ground, unlike Jungkook had done, obviously more confident.
"Yes, Hobi owes me a steak meal," he answered. "Sorry, you weren't meant to hear that."
"Oh, I know but I thought it was funny. I don't mind talking to you all, in fact I quite like it," I finished as we continued walking, a look exchanged between Jimin and J-Hope, smug before J-Hope pushed him away with a grin.
Jungkook was right behind me when we arrived at the edge of the stage, clearly ready to jump up and start practising.
"Are you good to go?" I asked and he blinked a few times before swallowing.
