*next day*
Susie skips down the school hallways to her mom's classroom like she does every day after the school day ends. She usually has to sit in the classroom for hours on her tablet while Lisa grades papers or goes over lesson plans and any other teacherly duties that need to be completed. However today was different. When she reaches her destination Lisa's already packed up and waiting for her outside the door.
S: "Hiya Mommy! Watcha doin out here?"
L: "I thought we'd leave a little early so to get youuuuu...a kitty!"
S: "What!? Really!? Mother changed her mind??"
L: "Well...no, but she's in a good mood so she shouldn't be too too mad. ;)"
The two get in the car and head for the nearest pet store to get some supplies.
S: "Okay mommy. So we need food, toys, a bed, a carrier, a scratching post, nail clippers, a kitty tooth brush, litter and a litter box, and treats."
L: "Wow you've done some research haven't you dear."
S: "Yep! Now let's get a cart and get started. We want only the finest for our kitty."
L: "Yes, only the finest."
The two travel around the store filling their cart. Neither of them having had a cat before, kind of went with their gut....and the internet.
S: "So wet food or dry food?"
L: "Well google says wet food is easier to digest but dry food is better for their teeth..."
The two look at each other.
S: "Lets get both."
L: "Agreed."
They spend about an hour wandering and googling.
S: "Okay so, we have wet and dry Hills science diet cat food, only the best; we have tooth cleaning cat treats, lots of toys, vibrac enzyme toothpaste, Dr Esleys kitty litter, a catit litter box, kitten nail clippers, and a smartcat ultimate scratching post. 😌"
L: "I'm not even going to imagine the cost of all of this but sounds good."
The two head to the front and check out. They haul the bags to the car and head off to the local shelter.
L: "So what kind of cat do you think your lookin for Suse?"
S: "Ummm, a cute one. 😊"
L: "I agree. :)"
When they reach the shelter Susie practically runs into the building.
L: "Slowly darling, we don't want to scare any of the animals."
The poor shelter employees looked absolutely overwhelmed. Since it was springtime the stray kitten uproar was outrageous.
A tussled up employee stumbles over, bottle feeding three kittens in her arms.
Employee: "Hello welcome to east coast no kill shelter, I'm Barbra, how can I help you today?"
L: "Um hello, I'm Lisa and-" Susie interrupts her.
S: "We're looking for a cute kitty!"
L: "...Yes."
B: "Oh, well lucky for you we have loads of those, so take your time too look around, take as long as you need." She turns to speed walk into another part of the shelter when another employee calls for her.
L: "Well, let's get to looking shall we!"
They travel around the shelter looking and holding the possible candidates.
L: "Was there any one specifically caught your attention."
S: "Hmm well I really liked that grey one over th- *GAAASSSSPPP*"
She trots over to a cage over near the back of the shelter.
A large Maine coin cat lye sleeping. His card said he was a stray. The shelter neutered him and gave him his shots already.
His body was shaved but his head and neck hadn't been.
S: "Ma'am!" Susie calls to an employee from across the store. The lady runs over.
L: "Susan Eleanor, we don't yell like that, that was very impolite, please apologize."
S: "I'm sorry ma'am. Um, why is that cat bald?"
Employee: "Oh that's Leon. When we got him he had horrible fleas. It would've been impossible to remove them so we had to just shave him."
S: "Oooohhhh...can I hold him?"
E: "Sure, if you're big enough, he's a pretty big cat."
She took Leon out of his cage and handed him to Susie. She had some trouble holing onto him for a minuet, but she got used to the weight.            She ran her hand along his soft back and scratched his head. He started purring.
S: "Awww, mommy, I want this one."
L: "Are you sure honey? There's loads of cats here? There's some we haven't even looked at yet?"
E: "Well we are a little worried about him because most families are looking for a kitten, but he's around 2 or 3 years old. We've been lowering the adoption prices on the older cats because they take up a lot of room and we need the space for kittens."
S: "See mommy? I think he's perfect! He looks like a giant orange lion! Pleeeeasee can we get him??"
L: "Well...he is already neutered and he already has all of his shots...and you're sure he's flea free?"
E: "Yes miss, but we can send you home with some anti flea shampoo in case any pop up."
L: Hmmm...okay we'll take him."
S: "Hooray! You hear that Leon?? You're coming home with us!"
