Harry figured he was the first to awake early next morning given how quiet it was, he quietly climbed down from his bunk where he saw Ron was snoring in his own bed while Hermione was still asleep in a small bed she and Y/n were going to share together. Thinking of Y/n he could not see him, the only presence of him was the hoodie he had put on Hermione when she had clearly returned to the tent feeling slightly cold. The summer nights were slowly starting to fade away.
Harry looked around the tent for a sign of Y/n when something on the table caught his eye, It was Mad Eye's own magical one. Sat quiet and still. Harry crossed the room as he moved to pick it up then left the tent.
"Are you the first to wake up?" A voice asked and Harry turned his head to see a tired looking Y/n with his wand in his hand.
"Have you...been out here all night?" Harry asked him.
Y/n just pointed his wand towards Mad-eye's eye. "Constant vigilance."
Harry looked down at the eye in his hand. "I know it seems silly but I..." He started but his voice died out.
"You want to bury it?" Y/n guessed.
Harry just nodded.
"I do not think that is silly." Y/n said looking out to the woods. "Mad-Eye was a fine wizard and deserves to be honoured. Even if this is the best we can manage for now."
Harry nodded and both he and Y/n began to search the woods around them for the oldest, most gnarled, and resilient-looking tree they could find. There in its shadow they buried Mad-Eye Moody's eye and Harry marked the spot by gouging a small cross in the bark with his wand. It was not much, but Harry felt that Mad-Eye would have much preferred this to being stuck on Dolores Umbridge's door. Then they both returned to the tent to wait for the others to wake, and discuss what they were going to do next.
"So...You and Hermione engaged. How long's that been a thing?" Harry said looking for a topic.
"I asked her during the reception of Bill and Fleur's wedding. We did not want to spoil the happy couples day so kept it to ourselves." Y/n said.
"Think the Death Eaters did a good job of spoiling it." Harry said.
"Yes, very true." Y/n nodded.
"Wait till the others find out. Mrs Weasley will throw a party I bet." Harry said.
Y/n nodded, that would only be possible if they all survived. But he wanted to remain hopeful.
"Would you and Ron be willing to share the role of Best man do you think?" Y/n asked. "You are both equally important to me after all."
"Of course." Harry nodded feeling oddly happy at being asked such a question.
"This is all hypothetical of course." Y/n said. "We still have a long task to finish." Y/n reminded him and Harry nodded and both boys went back to silence.
Harry, Y/n and Hermione felt that it was best not to stay anywhere too long, and Ron agreed, with the sole provison that their next move took them within reach of a bacon sandwich. Hermione therefore removed the enchantments she and Y/n had placed around the clearing, while Harry, Y/n and Ron obliterated all the marks and impressions on the ground that might show they had camped there. Then they Disapparated to the outskirts of a small market town.
Once they had pitched the tent in the shelter of a small copse of trees and surrounded it with freshly cast defensive enchantments, Harry ventured out under the Invisibility Cloak to find sustenance. This, however, did not go as planned. He had barely entered the town when an unnatural chill, a descending mist, and a sudden darkening of the skies made him freeze where he stood.
