Y/n knew he only had a few precious moments until the killing curse struck him, but how could he avoid that which was unavoidable? Only Harry had survived the curse due to his mother's protection and his own mother certainly had no love for him given that she was the one about to kill him.

So how was he going to defend himself from death?

Psychical...

Psychical.

He needed something physical. He quickly remembered the suit of armor that had fallen with the walk blast had been carrying a shield. It was long shot, but Y/n knew it was the only shot he had.

"Accio shield." He cast pointing his wand in front of him, hoping that he would make it in time.

He could hear the metal scraping against the stone floor and bricks as it shot into the air. The green light was almost about to hit him when the shield came into his view at the last moment and the killing curse struck it, rebounding back the way it came and striking a very unsuspecting Priscilla who was no more due to her own curse.

"Priscilla!" Ivan called out but there was no response or stirring from her direction.

"One down..." Y/n quietly said to himself with a slightly shaky wand hand, knowing just how much more work he had to do and how close to death he had already come.

"Priscilla answer me!" Ivan shouted to her now, but again no response came. "Atticus check on her."

"Why? It's obv..." Atticus started.

"I said do it!" Ivan shouted at him.

Y/n steadied his wand hand. His desire to know if the woman was really dead had outweighed his desire to strike with a rally of spells, even though he knew he should.

Atticus clicked his teeth unhappy with such a task and moved as he went to examine his mother. "She's dead." He called out.

"Dead?" Ivan repeated the word and he could only let out what sounded like a laugh as his eyes turned to bore into the spot where Y/n stood. "I will make sure you suffer boy..."

"You promised I..." Atticus began to speak up.

"You can still kill him boy... But I want to torture this mangy dog, so stay out of it!" Ivan cut off Atticus.

Ivan quickly raised his wand at Y/n, firing several spells at him and Y/n's eyes widened as he jumped sideways to avoid being hit by them. Priscilla's death, despite being at her own hand had set a burning intensity in Ivan that meant his spells felt more deadly than ever. He was no longer dueling to provoke and toy, it was a proper duel to the death now, despite what Ivan had told Atticus.

Y/n noticed that Ivan was careful in what curses he was choosing however... Particularly, he was not using the killing curse. He obviously did not want to make the same mistake as Priscilla, even if he thought it done by luck.
