One Step Closer

Maddie's POV

"Maddie! Wake up! You're gonna be late for school!" My mom shook me by my shoulders, I woke up with both of my feather pillows on the floor. The time was 8:20! I have five minutes to get dress and another five for the journey to school. I put on an off-shoulder black and white polka dot top, knee length blue denim jeans, a red belt with black wedges, I was going for a retro look.

I walked into Franklin Regional High, just in time. I ran to Music class, trying to avoid any teachers. "Ah! Madison! You're just in time, here's your violin" Mrs Diaz my music teacher handed over my violin, I play the violin pretty good. Brooke and Paige were in the same class as me, "Madison, please play me any movement on the violin" Mrs Diaz told me. For the whole class to hear! I hesitated for a split second, picked up my violin and played Beethoven's String Quartet op. 131. Everyone was mesmerised by my performance, Paige fell off her seat, Brooke accidentally dropped her guitar and a few others were speechless. "Well done, Madison! You ought to be a brilliant violinist!" Mrs Diaz praised me.

I walk over to my locker and I look for my English books. I look over my shoulder and I see Chloe flirting with Josh, I roll my eyes. Chloe was too busy flirting and making out with Josh to even say hi to me! I'm not even sure Josh likes Chloe that way. I cringed as the bell rang. English class...with Josh.

I quietly walked into the English room and sat in my seat, 2nd row 3rd seat. Apparently, Josh sits right behind me, "Hey, Maddie!" Josh waved. I ignored him and I stayed quiet. I was the half-popular, spontaneous girl at Franklin Regional. "Quickly sit down everyone!" A loud manly voice shouted, everyone else hurried to their seats. It was only our teacher, Mr Ruthbottom, "Today! You will all be planning on doing an essay on Florence Nightingale!" Sir smiled. I groaned quietly, Sir has eyes and hears like a hawk! Oops! Mr Ruthbottom glared at me suspiciously, I didn't dare to look him in the eye. He would make you blurt out all your embarrassing secrets! While Mr Ruthbottom explained the essay, I started planning my essay in my small black and white notebook.

Chloe came up to me while I put my English books away in my locker. "I never got to say hi. So hi!" She smiled, I sighed and looked at her. It's now time for lunch and now she says hello?! "Hey..." I didn't look at her and tucked my books away. We walked to the cafeteria. Josh,Brooke, Paige, Nick, Zack and Kevin were already there. They saved us seats! Brooke came up to me as I got my lettuce for veg, "Josh said he wants you to sit next to him" she whispered in my ear, I shook my head. I didn't want to sit next to Josh today, didn't feel like it either. I walked over to our table and I sat in between Brooke and Paige, Josh stayed quiet for a few minutes. I stabbed the raw meatloaf, munched a few slices of lettuce. I forgot I had cinnamon rolls in my bag, when I remembered, I took that out and devoured them. Once I finished them, everyone on the table stared at me. "Sorry..." I blushed. I'm really starting to like Josh, I think.

On my way home, I saw Chloe and Josh in the park I always walk through to get home. "I think we need some space...away from each other" Josh said, I jumped into a bush behind them. Okay okay, I eavesdropped! "Wait! Are you breaking up with me?" Chloe had a worried look on her face. Josh shook his head, stood up and walked home. Chloe sat there, on the wooden bench, she froze. I quickly {but quietly} crawled out of the bush and ran home.

I shut the front door, took off my shoes and dropped my bag by the stairs. Mackenzie was on the phone, talking to her friends. I waved and walked up to my bedroom, I read my favourite book, A French Princess In Versailles. It's really good so far. My phone rang and it was Chloe. I answered the phone.

"He---" I didn't even get to finish my sentence
"---I think Josh wants to break up with me!" Chloe shrieked
"Calm down! He loves you so much!"
"He said he needed some space!"
"I kno---what?!"
"Wait...were you in the park today?" Chloe asked suspiciously
"Maybe..." I tried to act cool
"YOU WERE!!! So you eavesdropped on Josh and I's conversation?! You know what!---" and Chloe hanged up.

I sat down on my bed, looking at photos of Chloe and I. There were photos of Kalani and I, Kalani is my other best friend. I still talk to her, she's just kick started a career in the Arts. I used my lilac feather pillow to hit myself, but I was still thinking about Josh and Chloe. I should avoid them tomorrow.
