Accidentally killing someone

Flori pov:

I didn't want to do it. It was a mistake. Even tho i completely despise maia, it wasn't my intention.

The group decided we should visit maia. It's been a couple of days now and we haven't heard anything from her.

As we entered the hospital, the sterile scent of disinfectant hit me. The mood was somber as we walked through the sterile hallways. I felt a spasm of anxiety as I made my way up to Maia's room.

She looked pale and weak, but she still managed to smile when she saw us. The girls surrounded her asking "How are you?" "did you eat?" "it hurts?".

Me and the boys sat in a corner looking uncomfortable making jokes every now and then while the girls yelled at us.
A nurse entered the room announcing we have only 5 minutes left and advised us to say our goodbyes (not in a "she'll die" way obv).
The girls gave maia a big hug and left the gifts for her on the side table.
Everyone was staring at calin, including maia.
He sighed and offered maia a red rose (that he obviously didn't buy, ema bought it for him).
-Uh get better, he said kissing her cheek, disgust showing in his face.
Everyone gets out, leaving me the last one to leave until i hear:
-Stefan can we have a word?
I go back inside and close the door.
-yeah?
-I just want to apologize for ruining your party. I feel terrible.
-Um, it's okay, no big deal, i say feeling uncomfortable.
-Your friends worked hard on it and I just feel bad i ruined the fun.
I didn't agree on the "worked hard" and "fun" but whatever.
-Its fine! Dont worry! I try to calm her. 
We sat in silence for a few moments, neither of us really sure what to say next. I get up not realizing that Maia's infusion line was on the ground. I tripped over it, causing the line to come out of her arm.

Maia gasped and started struggling to breathe. We all panicked and called for the nurses. The next thing I knew, the doctors were rushing into the room, trying to stabilize her.

I stood there, frozen, not sure what to do. This was all my fault.

We all waited in the waiting room to hear news from the nurse. Her parents arrived meanwhile, her mom almost crying and her dad yelling at everyone. He landed his eyes on me and pulled my shirt causing me to stand up. The man started yelling, rage showing in his eyes. I felt like i couldn't breathe because of him choking me.
Calin quickly jumped up and took my side, trying to calm the situation down.
-Hey, hey, let him go! What's the matter with you? Calin yelled at Maia's dad.

The man turned his attention to Calin, his face red with anger.
-This is all your fault! You and your friends brought this on my daughter! he shouted.
Calin tried to reason with him, but the man was inconsolable. He kept yelling and pointing fingers at us, blaming us for what had happened to Maia.

I felt a sense of guilt and shame wash over me.
-Sir, please calm down. We didn't mean for any of this to happen. We just wanted to visit our friend and make sure she was okay, I tried to reason with him.

But the man was too upset to listen. He stormed out of the waiting room, still yelling and cursing at us. I felt a sense of sadness and despair. Everything was a mess.

-Good job Stefan! I hope you are proud! Ema yells.
Eva and the other girls start gossiping about me like i wasn't there.

Calin gets closer to me and sits me down.
-Hey, its going to be okay! Im sure maia will be fine, he whispers.
His smile made me feel better. I took his hand into mine and took a deep breath.

*time skip, a few weeks later*

The news hit me like a knife. I couldn't believe it.
Maia died. The shock took over me causing me to almost have a panic attack.
The doctors explained it wasn't completely my fault. The juice had different kinds of drugs in it, which caused maia to pass out a few weeks later. It was true that the incident slightly contributed.
Fortunately, her parents decided to not sue my family but to sue Cosi's. 
I bet ema had those "giving birth to triplets" moments when she found out.
The girls (obv mostly for attention) were depressed and aggressive with everyone for the next 2 weeks.
Calin felt bad but also relived that bitch didn't cause our relationship any problems. He faked acting sad for a week so he won't get called a monster. Everyone forgot about what i did and mostly accused cosi, that got suspended for a month.

At least, our relationship was safe for now.
