I assumed I would be annoyed enough to vent into these Wattpad entries each day but turns out I needed an entire week of peace to recover from my first week in Pediatrics.
Dermatology has shown me that when you're working hours are reasonable and your seniors are sane (probably because they don't have inhumane responsibilities), you can be mentally at peace (and maybe even be happy?).
The OPD starts at 9:30 am and the door is locked exactly at 4 pm. It's beautiful, honestly. You can leave by 4:15 and that's it.
I've stayed in college and school longer! You get to sit the whole damn, maybe check on 4-5 patients in the wards. You get the entire evening to ensure your entire personality isn't that you work at a hospital.
Also, all government holidays are half days so I got to come back by lunch on 4 out of the 7 days that I was posted in Dermatology. It was beautiful.
We saw an insane number of patients each day however, so it does get chaotic the time you are there. But the staff and PGs are nice enough to take the time and teach you about all the cases that come. Honestly, the mental health of that department is sky rocketing.
It does get boring after a while, the subject is a little dry.
However it really makes you think, how much sanity can you sacrifice for passion?
