Halfway through internship, here are some things I want to scream at people's faces. Unfortunately though, I can't. Hence here it is for the rest of the world to see:
1. Your insecurities of not knowing basic conversational English is not an excuse to guilt trip me for being proficient. Work more on your self-image than attempting to force me to give up my pride for a skill I've worked hard over years to acquire.
2. Not sure why this is mind-boggling to the majority but there is such a thing as professional communication and no, language doesn't have to come into play. All spoken languages have means of framing respectful sentences.
3. Either stick to the professional healthcare hierarchy or stick to treating all your colleagues at work equally. I might be at the lowest rung of my ladder but your ladder is still several feet below mine: I could act like I'm from a gang in a small dusty town in the 1800s that's never seen the face of modern civilization too. I merely choose not to. I'm not apologizing for a forward upbringing.
4. Picking the lowest hanging fruit simply because you don't bear the guts to stand up to the fruits higher up is a game we can all play. Instead of trying to massage your ego that stemmed from self-respect that shattered years ago, be the one that contributes to a healthy work environment for your subordinates, at the very least. Stop attempting to threaten with me baseless statements: you are only wasting our patient's time and to be honest, they don't always have much of that to spare.
5. Don't get into healthcare if you are selfish and narcissistic. It's affecting patient care and draining the mental energies of those who give a damn. If you yearned for the lifestyle and skill set of a senior doctor, you should have put in the work and gone to med school like they did.
