I shouldn't be here.
Yet my irrational thoughts and thinking had led me to the door steps, belonging to the man who had haunted my dreams and filled them with erotic thoughts.
Zade Lombardi. My ex-boyfriend's father— aka the man who had invaded my mind and thinking process.
Everything about this man was sophisticated and well put together, the complete opposite of myself.
I bite the inside of my cheeks, it's not too late to turn around, my conscience says. I shake my head and knock on the door.
I'm only here to collect my belongings. I tell myself, I'm definitely not here to see this man one more time before I turn around and completely disappear from his life.
My shoulders sag at that thought. Even though Lucas was an absolute prick most of the time, his father was the complete opposite.
We had gotten along well, well enough I had considered him a great friend. And now, it feels like I'm losing a great friend.
The lock on the door clicks, I hold my breath as the front door opens.
"Eleanor?" He rubs his eyes and squints down at me. "What are you doing here?" He glances at his watch and frowns. "It's ten after you should be home."
I brush my hands over my dark blue jeans, suddenly shy in front of the six foot two man with dark brown eyes staring down at me.
"Can I?" I paused, "Can we talk?" My voice comes out weak, too weak for my liking.
His entire body fills the entrance, big buff— broad shoulders, it didn't help that he wasn't small either.
He takes a step aside and holds the front door open to prevent it from closing shut.
I duck my head and walk past him while mumbling a silent Thankyou.
"What happened?" The front door shuts behind me. I sigh and rub my head over my forehead.
I should have known.
Zade wasn't the kind of man who sat around waiting for answers.
"I'm just here to get my things." I pushed his concerns aside, I didn't want to think about my sister sleeping with my boyfriend.
"Eleanor." He presses, a worried expression forming on his face.
"Your son cheated on me." I press my lips together, "With my sister." Even the thought left a distaste sting on the tip of my tongue.
"The drug addict?" He frowns, I almost laugh. It was sad really, how everyone in town knew about my sister's addiction problems.
"The one and only."
He's quiet for a second and then, "I'm sorry."
"It's fine."
"My sons an asshole." He shrugs, trying to lighten the situation. "I always thought you were too good for him anyway."
I smile and then laugh. "That's a pretty rough thing to say about your son, calling him an asshole." Even though I had the same exact thought.
He holds his hands up. "It's the truth." He smiled—a captivating smile, stealing my entire breath away.
I coughed, "I'm just gonna—" I paused, suddenly feeling awkward. I didn't finish the sentence.
Instead, I pointed at the staircase leading to Lucas's old bedroom hoping he got the message even if it had seemed a tad rude.
"Don't let me stop you." I turned and walked away, leaving him in the living room.
"Eleanor." His voice stops my movement at the bottom of the staircase.
"Yes?"
"Want a drink?"
I bit my lip debating, I knew it was a bad idea to be intoxicated around him. But I found myself agreeing anyway.
"Blueberry vodka right?" He yells from a distance, I'm guessing he's already in the kitchen making the drinks.
I smiled, "You remembered."
"I only buy it for you." Silence and then, "Plus your the only one who drinks it." I laughed and proceeded up the stairwell.
