Fuutarou's POV:

"Are you excited for the school trip, Uesugi-san?"

"Excitement's overrated." I mutter. "...I'll show them what it's like to mess with me, though. I'll frighten them so much that they'll never dare to cross me again."

Relax, I'll explain. It's actually a funny story. Our class trip is coming up soon, and they were looking for volunteers for one of the activities. Because of my own carelessness, I accidentally signed up—and by the time it was all over, it was far too late to back out.

''Uesugi-san, it was your fault you took the courage test.'' Yotsuba props her chin on the back of her hand. The corners of her mouth pull all the way up and the ribbon flutters at her ear with every word. ''You should've actually been listening to the teacher instead of focusing on the lesson. You shouldn't raise your hand to everything, hehe.''

Right now, I am in the library with Yotsuba and Miku. We wait for the others so we can study properly after a long time. Although this wig is starting to embarrass me a bit. It's a necessary part of the costume I'm making and I wanted to test it. A small price to pay for my true goal, going to screw them all up with pure horror.

"Blonde wig suits you, Fuutarou."

''Don't care. I made a mistake once, I won't do it again. I need to take it seriously.''

"Nee nee~! Have you two heard the Bonfire Legend?" Yotsuba puts her pen down on the table and looks between Miku and me with an excitement that doesn't match the math we're supposed to be doing

"Nee nee~! Have you two heard the Bonfire Legend?" Yotsuba puts her pen down on the table and looks between Miku and me with an excitement that doesn't match the math we're supposed to be doing. "It is said that you'll be bound by fate for life to the partner you dance with at the finale of the bonfire dance that takes places on the last day."

I roll my eyes hard enough that I nearly dislocate something behind them. ''That's about as rational as claiming a matcha soda will grant you telepathy. Nonsense. Unscientific. Absolutely no causal mechanism.''

''Yup.'' Miku nods. ''I agree with Fuutarou.''

"How insensitive you two are! Argh—!''
