Inside the castle, SMG4 gathered the entire crew to the main hall to listen to SMG3 explain what was going on.
He explained how he noticed Memes changing, the weird area in the forest and the lake he saw. He left out the thing with the string tho – that was something they didn't need to know...
"Maybe it's a new TikTok thing? Like that Devious Lick thing a while back?" Meggy chimed in.
"I thought about that", SMG3 shook his head, "But I don't see any videos on my For You page that seem even SLIGHTLY similar to what I saw"
"Have you considered Reddit? Those losers have so many different subreddits, anything could be from there lol" Bob's robotic voice spoke out.
"I mean maybe" SMG3 sighed "but Reddit's Meme energy is usually too weak to change an entire part of the graveyard forest like that. The best they can do is send down a few Memes, but entire buildings? That would be news to me!"
"Buildings? What buildings?" Tari asked.
"Oh, did I not tell you about the buildings I saw?" SMG3 pulled out his phone. "Around the lake there were these weird and different buildings everywhere. Here, I took some pictures"
SMG3 turned his phone around to show the gang the different pictures he took.
They all gathered around the phone. Everyone looked at the pictures in silence, thinking about what it all could mean until the picture of the hotel sign popped up on screen. That's when Fishy Boopkins cried out "AAH, I think I know what this is!!"
Everyone turned to Boopkins who seemed to beam with joy.
"What is it, Boopkins?? Do you recognize this Hotel??" SMG3 asked, relieved to finally have some information.
Boopkins pulled out his laptop. "Well not this hotel EXACTLY, but I recognize the trope!"
"The trope? What are you talking about?" Saiko leaned back against a wall.
"The fanfiction trope of course!! Maybe this new trend is based on Fanfictions" Boopkins replied, turning his laptop around to reveal a webpage called 'List of Tropes in Fanfictions'
Everyone seemed to jump back at the word 'Fanfiction' which made Boopkins frown. "Ah come on guys, do none of you read fanfiction??" he asked desperately.
"Ooooh, Mario hates-a reading!" Marios mustache grew, already annoyed at the pure IDEA of reading anything.
"Can I see that list, Boopkins?" SMG4 stepped forward and grabbed Boopkins's laptop.
"Pirate AU, Coffee Shop AU, Only one bed.." He scrolled through the list. " Three, this sounds exactly what you've been describing!"
SMG4 handed the laptop to SMG3, who confirmed for himself that a lot of the items on this list were indeed things he saw happened to some of the Memes in the graveyard.
"But why do these appear in the graveyard, aren't fanfictions still very popular?" SMG3 asked, scrolling down the list. But before he could even wait for an answer, he saw it.
Exactly what he needed.
