If you don't know, being selective mute means you CAN talk but "choose" due to mass amounts of anxiety or trauma.

When you first met :

- when you first met you guys were both in school, and the apocalypse hadn't happened yet.

- he didn't know why you didn't talk, he first thought you didn't like him.

- but when you came up with a note for him, you instantly became friends.

- ' hi my name is y/n  I dont talk, and I raelly want to be yur firend' spelled with a few grammatical mistakes but it's cool.

When you got to the prison era :

- he is already really over protective, but now it seemed like he was always on edge.

- he makes you bring a notebook everywhere.

- he really wants to hear your voice, it's so bad that it keeps him up at night imagining what your " first words " would be.

- when you first did speak he was about to cry.

- ' you where both sitting on the ground, looking at each other while holding hands. " come on, you can do it cant ya' ?" Carl said looking at you. " just one word " Carl persisted, looking intently into your eyes. You opened your mouth but nothing came out, you where so close. Carl only looked down into his lap a sad look on his face, as he was about to get up and leave. " ca-rl" a break in between your words, it hurt alot seeing as you hadn't used your voice in so long. " you did it !! You said my name !" Carl yelled out in excitement, before eagerly asking. " can you say it again?!" The excitement stil evident in his voice. " carl." You repeated, it didn't hurt as much as it did last time '

- after that incident he went around bragging about it to the others, you just stood there embarrassed.

Alexandria arc :

- you still didn't talk much but you said a few words, like 'no' 'yes' and 'please' and muttering a few ' thank you' 's here and there.

- at this point you and Carl where already together, so late at night you would sit and practice saying words to each other.

- Carl had said 'I love you' many times before but ,when he heard you say it he actually started crying.

If you two get separated :

- he is absolutely losing his shit.

- he starts yelling at you to make any kind of noise or ,anything to indicate where you are.

- once he finds you he clings onto you like a baby koala, sorta. I mean he picks you up and carries you around until you are back at the base, even then he's still a bit hesitant to let go.
