Season One Episode Four

The Support group had been sitting in their circle created by school chairs like usual, but this session Mr. Martin had a chalkboard he was using to write.

Today however was different as Laura was sitting in her own seat instead of with Wally. She was slightly confused as to why he didn't want her to sit with him but she decided to brush it off as she thought he was probably just in a bad mood from something happening prior in the day.

Mr. Martin started writing on the chalkboard, "Okay. Thank you Rhonda. Maybe we narrow it down a bit? I'm afraid we're citing all of Ginsburg might have us howling at the end."

No one in the group had laughed at Mr. Martins joke causing embarrassing tension in the room.

"Maddie, hi. Nice of you to join us. We're brainstorming fun things we could all do this weekend." Mr. Martin spoke glad to be able to change the subject after the awkwardness.

Maddie sat down in an empty chair to the left of Wally, "I'll tell you what I want to do, I wanna figure out why Mr. Anderson was talking to someone on his phone about giving me money last night."

"Okay, I'm not sure how to board that, but-" Mr. Martin told the blonde. It was strange how he seemed like he was trying to act like he didn't know something but he did it in a suspicious manner.

Wally cut the dead teacher off, "Wait, who is he talking to?"

Maddie shrugged, "That's what I'm trying to figure out. So I need to know if anyone here has seen anything."

She continued, "Seriously? All we do is haunt the halls of this stupid school and none of you have seen anything suspicious from Anderson?"

"Oh okay, well, one time I saw Mr. Anderson misspell the word fundraiser on a boosters club poster and he forgot the D. I feel like that's pretty suspicious coming from an English teacher." Wally furrowed his eyebrows. He genuinely seemed to care about everything Maddie would say and maybe at some point that would be a problem.

Charley had a confused look on his face as he spoke to Wally, "Wally, I'm pretty sure that was a pun, so I'm assuming he probably did that on purpose."

Wally looked baffled. He looked to his right to see Laura slumped in her chair picking at her nails. She hadn't been paying any attention to the previous conversation.

Wally had felt guilty. He didn't mean to push her away today but he was just tired and didn't want her all over him. He didn't know why he felt those feelings as Laura wasn't the type to smother him, he just felt like he needed space and even he couldn't understand why he was feeling that.

Rhonda butted in continuing the conversation, "Sorry sweets, we don't just stand around staring at the living all day."

"No. You plan weekend fun, like movie nights." Maddie exclaimed while looking at the chalkboard.

Mr. Martin turned to look at his writing before turning back to the girl, "We do what we can to break up the monotony, that's all."

Charley raised his hand with a smile trying to sound as nice as he could to not hurt the teacher's feelings, "if I may, to be fair, watching the same five sports movies over and over and over again is kind of monotonous, Mr. Martin."
