Oakley Kamel was always a bit of an oddball in class. He never seemed to quite fit in with the other kids, preferring to keep to himself and draw in his sketchbook during recess. He was a quiet boy, with shaggy brown hair that always seemed to be in his eyes, and a tendency to wear the same faded red hoodie every day.

Despite his reserved nature, Oakley's drawings were anything but shy. They were vivid and fantastical, filled with strange creatures and whimsical landscapes that seemed to transport the viewer to another world entirely. His classmates would sometimes peek over his shoulder to catch a glimpse of what he was working on, but Oakley was always quick to snap his sketchbook shut, as if afraid that someone might steal his ideas.

One day, during art class, Oakley's teacher Mrs. Diaz asked the class to draw a self-portrait. While most of the other kids drew themselves with big smiles or silly expressions, Oakley's self-portrait was a bit different. It showed him with a serious expression, his eyes downcast and his face obscured by a curtain of hair. But what really caught Mrs. Diaz's attention was the way Oakley had drawn himself surrounded by a pack of strange, wolf-like creatures, all of them snarling and baring their teeth.

"Oakley, this is...interesting," Mrs. Diaz said, peering over his shoulder. "Can you tell us a bit more about what's going on in this picture?"

Oakley looked up at her, his eyes wide and startled, as if he'd forgotten he was in a classroom full of people. "Oh," he said, his voice soft and hesitant. "It's just...sometimes I feel like the world is full of monsters. And they're always chasing me, trying to catch me."

There was a moment of awkward silence as the other kids in the class looked at each other, not sure what to say. But Mrs. Diaz just smiled kindly at Oakley and said, "Well, that's certainly a powerful image. You have a real talent for drawing, Oakley. Have you ever thought about pursuing art as a career?"

Oakley shrugged, as if the idea had never occurred to him before. But from that day forward, he seemed to carry himself a little taller, as if he'd been given permission to take his art seriously. And while he still didn't quite fit in with the other kids in his class, he no longer seemed to mind so much. After all, he had his sketchbook, his strange creatures, and a whole world of imagination to explore.
