When I woke up that morning, I felt horrible.
Horrible about what happened with Jeremy yesterday, horrible about what happened with Klaus.
Nothing in my life right now seemed to be going according to plan.
I decided to make my way to Jeremy's room, to check in with him. I don't think anyone has once asked him how he feels about everything lately.
I knocked on his doorframe, as his door was already wide open.
He looked up from where he was tying his shoe and gave me a small smile.
"Hey Emma." he greeted.
"Hi Jer. How're you doing?" I asked, walking over and taking a seat next to him on his bed.
"I'm doing all right. I just am so ashamed of myself for what happened yesterday. I never meant to hurt Elena or you. I'm sorry." he sighed.
"Hey. Look at me it's ok." I put my hand on his cheek.
"The curse is what made you do it. Elena and I both know that you would never intentionally try to harm us." I tried to comfort him.
He gave me a weak smile.
"All I want is to get the cure for Elena. I just hope I don't develop a psycho alter ego like Alaric did." he responded.
"You won't. You're not Ric. I won't let what happened to him happen to you, Jer. I promise." I assured him.
"Emma, can I ask you something?" he said.
"Yeah, of course. What is it?" I replied.
"If came down to either Elena and I or Klaus... would you choose us?" he looked me dead in the eyes.
Without hesitating, I responded.
"I would choose you both without question. You and Elena are my family. Nothing comes before you two, no matter who it is." I spoke.
Jeremy grinned and pulled me into a hug, which I gladly accepted.
Then and there I decided that I would need to let Klaus go. As much as I loved him, being with him would never work.
There would always be obstacles that would make me question where my loyalties lie, with my family or with him, and that can't happen.
It felt like my heart shattered in two that morning, but I put on a brave face. My friends needed me right now. Elena needed me right now.

"Elena, hey." I heard Bonnie say.
I looked out from my locker and saw Elena walking towards Bonnie, Caroline, and I.
I quickly grabbed what I needed and closed it.
"Is everything ok?" Bonnie asked.
"Yeah. Why wouldn't it be?" Elena responded.
"Well, Caroline and Emma told me you had to move out to stay away from Jeremy." Bonnie spoke.
"Matt's at the house with him right now to make sure he keeps all of his hunter stuff in control. He's okay." Elena breathed.
"But are you? I mean clearly they don't have a flatiron at Hotel Salvatore. Heh." Caroline chuckled, referring to how Elena's hair was in a bun.
"Oh. I was in a rush. I mean.." she started taking her hair down.
"Look, do you girls have any plans tonight? I'm in desperate need of some girl talk." she sighed.
"Yeah, I'm in. Shane taught me some small spells I've been wanting to try." Bonnie smirked.
