Bennett pauses when he walks into work after school. He exhaled sharply after seeing his cousin sat by herself with her test taped on her as she stared out the window dramatically. After looking at the test, he noticed grade was a 'd'.

"Do I wanna know what happened or should I keep going on with my day?" He mumbles to himself, wondering if he should drag himself into his cousin's drama. He sighs, turning to face his cousin. "Alright, Riley, what's the matter?"

"I hate Spanish." Riley whined.

Bennett chuckles and nods in agreement. "Same. But what's the problem?"

"She got a D on her Spanish test, and now she's saying she's not good enough to sit with us." Maya replied, and Bennett nodded in realization.

"Riley, getting a D on a test isn't the worst thing in the world." Bennett reassured her cousin.

"Riley, it's only one grade." Lucas told Riley.

"Yeah, you know how many D's I got in middle school?" Maya asks. She grins. "Once, I got five D's n one day."

"That's impressive." Bennett commented and Maya grinned at him.

"You were Cinco D Maya." Zay remarked, and he and his friends laughed. Riley laughed, too, but she looked confused afterward.

"I don't get it." She frowned.

"I don't get it either," Bennett admits with a shrug. "And I don't care." He walked over to the counter to start working.

Riley's and Maya's friend group continued to talk about how the grades in middle school didn't matter and how there was a permanent record you got in high school when Brylee walked in.

"Hey, Brylee." Bennett greets, setting his backpack down on the back counter off to the side where he normally put it. "You want your normal order?"

"Yeah, that'd be great. Thanks." Brylee smiled, taking a seat at the counter. She glances over at her sister and her friends. "So, I heard them talking about a permanent record."
