Christmas was coming up. Brylee absolutely loved Christmas. She always had. Even when things were rough with her mom and sister, she still loved the holiday season. She loved the atmosphere and the feeling of being surrounded by family and friends. It was one of her favorite times of the year. She loved decorating the house with festive lights, baking holiday treats, and spending time with her loved ones. She felt a sense of magic and joy during Christmas that brightened even the darkest days.

This year, Brylee was especially excited because this would be her family's first Christmas with Shawn. It was going to be weird having him there, but it would be nice to have a complete family for the holiday. Though she understood why Maya was so nervous and worried about it. The way she, Maya, and their mom did Christmas wasn't normal. And she could tell Maya was worried once Shawn seen how crazy they were he would leave and never come back. That was how Maya came up with the suggestion of staying with the Matthews, claiming if she wasn't there then nothing would get ruined. Brylee kept arguing with her that she wouldn't be the reason and that Shawn was different. And while she was worried as well, she believed that if he was serious about wanting to be in their lives, he would understand that things were different. He wouldn't judge them for it. He had stuck around this long, so she believed that meant something.

Though she also knew some of the Christmas crazy things that happened at their house could scare someone off. Like Gimbo the Elf. Gimbo the Elf was a substitute for Santa Clause for the girls when they were younger. Katy would tell her girls Santa loved them too expect he was so busy with people uptown so they got Gimbo the Elf, who she had dressed up. Brylee had realized this was because money was usually tight around the holidays and Katy didn't want her daughters to worry about the presents. So, she had come up with Gimbo the Elf. At first, Brylee didn't mind it but as she got older she was embarrassed by it. However, she also understood how important these traditions were to her mom and how they had shaped their holiday celebrations. But she understood why Maya would be worried to showing this different side around the holidays to Shawn. Brylee knew that if Shawn really did love their mom and them and that if he really wanted to be a part of their lives, then he would have to accept all of them. And their crazy Christmas traditions included.
