To Breathe Your Breath

Summary: Younghyun decides to surprise Sungjin with his early discharge, and both of them realizes quite a lot of things about their relationship along the way.

Younghyun is very good at keeping a calm façade during times of restlessness. This is something he realizes, if not for the first time, then at least with the most intensity, when he sits down at the back of the van with his heart literally beating like a drum while maintaining a blank expression to not worry the people he's with.

Trying to think of ways to fight off the drowsiness, Younghyun averted his eyes from the window to take a glance at his phone, specifically at the last unread text from someone he desperately wanted to see.

Sungjin

Good morning! Have a good day and be safe. I love you.

And without knowing it, he breaks into a smile. Of course, it's a small one at first, just a slight upturn of the corners of his mouth. But as he continues to read, and gradually feels the emotion of the message, the smile grows wider until it's a full-blown grin.

The message is, well — it was short and simple. Sungjin, being someone who had already finished his enlistment and had quite an experience with its rules and regulations, definitely knows how important it is for those to be followed.

Hence, he tries to not pamper Younghyun with a lot of 'distractions' as he used to call them, even if Younghyun had scolded him many times to not label himself with such words. Therefore, Sungjin knows Younghyun wouldn't be able to answer; Sungjin knows that he can only reply not until later at 6 PM, and Sungjin was expecting him to be at the camp all day as usual, fulfilling his duties.

Or that's what Sungjin knows.

What Sungjin doesn't know is that Younghyun got discharged earlier than both of them are expecting and is currently on his way to surprise him on a Monday morning. He had to make a lot of convincing and phone calls with different people, especially whom Sungjin might get in contact with, to keep his early discharge a secret for the meantime.

So, technically, with all the preparation Younghyun has been doing, he's awake for quite a while now. The beginning of the plan was quite a painful step because, holy smokes, he had to wake up at 5:30 AM, and everyone knows Younghyun is used to waking up a lot later nowadays.

His excitement kept him awake and going, though. The problem now is how smoothly he'll be able to do this plan without getting caught by other idols, or worse, by Sungjin himself.

Maybe the JYPE building would be the last place where he would want to do these types of things. But then, he also wants it to be as unexpected as possible. He really wants to catch Sungjin off guard and possibly see a funny reaction from him along the process.

So, it basically balances out — as long as both of them play it safe and do not let their own emotions get the best of them too much.

Younghyun let out a breath before getting off the van as quickly and discreetly as he could and entered the company without forgetting to briefly greet the staff before going back to hide behind his manager to get on the elevator.

For a second, he starts noticing the moisture that has begun to build up on his palms. Damn, he really wasn't the guy who is prone to excessive sweating when anxious. It basically tells a lot about what he's feeling about today.
