She wakes up to the sound of a loud thunderclap and flash of lightning, she's startled. She sits up but hits her head. What is this? She knocks on the hard glass. Plexiglass? She panics, she looks around her there is nothing but dirt. I'm in a hole 6ft under. She looks up above her she sees Matt, Foster, Boden, Severide, Kidd, Otis, Cruz, Capp, Tony, Herrman, and his family, her parents. They are all sobbing. She screams out for help, but nobody seems to hear her. She's in a coffin. A coffin with plexiglass around her. She continues to scream for Matt. Why isn't he answering me? He always is there for me, he is always listening to me. I'm not dead. I know I'm not dead. She watches a black figure standing beside everyone. She can't make it out on who it is. She watches them pick up an object. A shovel? A garden hoe? No, a shovel. The black figure picks up the shovel and starts filling the hole in with dirt. She starts screaming louder. She's being buried alive. This can't be happening! The air inside of the container starts to run out. She can't breathe. The dirt that is landing on top of her is covering her vision of seeing what is above her. She starts to panic...
She shot awake screaming, sweating, breathing heavily. Stella rushes into her room paranoid to check on her.
"Brett! What's going on?" Stella quickly sits on her bed next to her.
She tries to slow her breathing, "I'm okay. Just a bad dream is all."
Stella looks at her concerned, "Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just gonna get some water to calm down."
"Okay. Trying going back to sleep. We have Casey's promotion Ceremony in the morning." she reminds her.
She shakes her head and waves her off "Yeah, you're right."
She slowly walks into the kitchen to grab a bottle of water. She takes a sip as she stands in her kitchen, thinking about her dream. It was a dream, but why does it feel so real? She takes her water back to her room. She sets the bottle down on her nightstand. She crawls back into bed and slowly feels her eyelids getting heavy. She closes her eyes. She sleeps for about an hour until Stella walks in to wake her up.
Stella calls out, "Brett, Let's go we're gonna be late for shift." as she pulls the comforter off of Brett.
She takes her pillow and places it over her head, "I'm not going. I'm just gonna call off."
"What why?" Stella asks.
She inhales nervously, "Because... I just have that feeling, a feeling that today isn't going to go the way it's supposed to. Something bad is about to happen."
"What about Casey's promotion ceremony? You should be there to support him. Remember he is your boyfriend." Stella reminds her.
"I know... But what if the dream I had last night was his getting injured and I couldn't do anything to save him?"
Stella inhales, then exhales. She thinks What can I do to get her to go to work? The light bulb goes off in her head. "Okay, well how about we do this. You get up, take a shower, and get dressed. We'll go from there." Stella suggests. "You know baby steps."
She nods, "Yeah, okay. I can do that."
She gets up takes a shower and gets dressed for shift. Once she was finished with that, she grabs her bag from her closet and heads to the door, where Stella was standing waiting for her. They walk to her Jeep and head to the firehouse.
