Duchess Swan left Sparrow's house with the Next Top Villain competition on her mind. She assumed swan form and took off gracefully. There was really no reason for her to go back to class due to Sparrow's interruption, so she decided to fly back to campus.
'In order to win Next Top Villain, I'll have to sabotage the other's projects...including Lizzie's. The other's I could care less about but I can't do that to Lizzie, she's my friend...but villains don't do friends apparently. But, I need to pass this assignment so I can move on to Advanced Magic and remove my curse. Not to mention the horseback riding test on Friday...this is just-!'
Her thoughts get interrupted as a black blur rushes past her, causing her to fly off course. She honks in shock but manages to steer herself back into her flight pattern. She looks up with a glare to see a black owl with red eyes perched on a branch looking down at Duchess.
The black owl opens one wing and begins to preen its feathers calmly. Duchess in her swan form hisses at the owl angrily which gets the owl to look at Duchess.
'There's plenty of sky to go around! Watch where you're flying! That owl tried to cut me off on purpose, but there's something familiar about it...'
The two birds stare at one another until the owl spreads it's wings and bows like a gentleman and then winks and flies off.
'Who the hex was....Noctus! I don't care if he's my Storybook Nemesis, I don't care if he know's dark magic, I don't even care if he can turn into an owl, NO ONE CUTS ME OFF LIKE THAT!' Duchess thought angrily.
She flies after him at a fast pace.
Noctus looks behind him and sees Duchess following close behind him.
The two birds end up neck and neck with each other.
Noctus screeches at Duchess who hisses back.
He does a spin in the air and she copied him exactly. He then flies fast higher up and she follows him.
The two soar beyond the trees and fly high in the sky and the two fly across from each other.
Duchess glares at Noctus while flapping her wings and Noctus just points with his wing and she turns and her glare fades.
The two hover as they see the view from the Enchanted Forest and beyond.
'Years of being a swan and I never decided to stop and enjoy the view...it's beautiful.' Duchess admits in her head.
Noctus flies back to campus on the balcony and Duchess follows him back to campus.
The two fly onto the highest balcony and land.
Noctus transforms back into human form with red smoke while Duchess transforms back into human form with lavender smoke.
"Watch where you're flying!" Duchess says to Noctus in annoyance.
"You have the entire forest and you choose to ram into me!"
Noctus crosses his arms with a light smirk.
"Exactly, I have free space and I chose to bump into you and good thing too. You're pretty fast in the air." Noctus admits while looking at her.
"Thanks, I guess...you were in pretty fast too." Duchess admits.
Noctus turns towards the balcony and looks out.
"Wait, why are you talking to me? I'm your Storybook Nemesis." Duchess says with an arched brow.
"I mean...you know of any other shape shifting students that can turn into a bird. That knows what it's like to soar above the clouds, to see what the other students don't, the wind brushing up against your wings...it's nice to get some perspective with someone looking from my point of view...as a bird that is." Noctus admits.
Duchess looks at him in shock.
"Hang on, are you trying to let my guard down so you can try and curse me!" Duchess asks with a glare.
His expression fades into a light glare.
"And just like that, you ruined the moment. Like I said, it would be a waste of magic if I cursed you since you can turn into a swan at will." Noctus says with a scowl.
Duchess is about to say something but stops.
"Our original story is that the Dark Wizard curses the Swan Princess into being a swan by day and human by night, but somewhere along the generations your family gained the ability of having swan transformations, so what's the point if you can continue the story on your own." Noctus says as he stops scowling and looks out.
"The point is that you're supposed to curse me-" Duchess starts but Noctus interrupts.
"Life's too short for me to dedicate my time to curse a princess who does ballet to turn her into a swan." he says as he looks at her.
"Do you really think I personally want to curse you to be a swan for the rest of your life just because my ancestors did just because I was born as the child of a villain?" Noctus asks.
Duchess is rather quiet.
"You know, for someone who doesn't really want their destiny, you're rather quick to accuse me of trying to curse you." Noctus says with a sly smirk.
Duchess looks at him in shock.
"W-what are you talking about? Of course I want my destiny!" Duchess says.
"Really? Your expression said otherwise the other night when you were spying on Headmaster Grimm and Mr. Badwolf in your swan form." Noctus says with crossed arms.
'I have more important things to think about than heroes and villains and right now is acing this test...but if Noctus was telling the truth about our story and how it changed...could I really get by without him cursing me?' she thinks to herself as she walks to her next class.
Meanwhile, Noctus goes to BadWolf's office and knocks on the door.
BadWolf opens the door and is in his wolf form and growls.
"Noctus, you should be thinking about what you're going to do for Next Top Villain" BadWolf growls.
Noctus rubs the back of his head and looks at BadWolf.
"Mr. BadWolf, can I talk to you about that in your office?" he asks.
The two look at each other for a minute.
BadWolf nods and steps aside to his classroom and Noctus walks in and closes the door.
