I woke up in immense pain. My face was still tender from the slap. My stomach was a mess of bruises, and my entire body was sore. It hurt to walk from the number he did on me last night, much to my dismay.
I groaned as I rolled myself out of bed. Looking at the time, I realized it was nearly noon. My body trembled as I stood up. I made my way into the bathroom to take a cold shower. I needed to wake myself up, and I needed to make my mind less foggy.
After I did my normal routine, I stepped out of the shower, ignoring my reflection in the mirror. I couldn't hear to see all of what he inflicted.
After getting dressed and hiding the bruises the best I could, I got ready to leave.
"Bye, babe. Have a good time with Chandler." John said with a sweet smile.
"Thank you. I'm spending dinner with him too."
"Okay, I'll just get something later."
"Alright, bye!" I said as I walked out the door and locked it.
I got into my car and blasted music to down out my thoughts. It's better this way, just ignoring everything.
Too soon, I make it to Chandler's house. I open the Tylenol I keep in the car and take three.
I sigh as I get out of the car, willing to make my bruises hurt less. I know it will take about thirty minutes for the Tylenol to work. I should have taken it when I left my apartment.
I knock on his front door. He immediately opens it and hugs me. I wince in pain, but hug him back regardless.
"I feel like I haven't seen you in forever!" He exclaims.
I lightly laugh. "We see each other all the time."
"Yeah, but that's only for videos. This time, we actually get to catch up."
We go into his house and went to the living room to sit and talk. When I bent down to sit, I winced again, this time catching Chandler's attention.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" He asks with concern evident in his tone.
"Oh, uh-yeah. I'm fine. Just a cramp."
He nods before entering a different topic. We talk for awhile before he suggests pizza for dinner.
"Yeah, as long as it's not pineapple pizza." I smile at him
He shakes his body for a second, disgusted by the thought. "Why would you even bring that up?"
"Simple. I know you hate it."
He shoots me a playful glare while dialing the pizza delivery place.
Not long after that, Jimmy and Karl show up at the door.
"Karl wanted to say hi to y/n." Jimmy explained as Karl bounded over to me.
I laughed. "Karl, we hung out a week ago."
"I know," he replied as he plopped down on the couch next to me.
I just shook my head at his antics as my phone began to ring.
I look at the Caller ID to see that it's John. I sighed, causing Karl to look at me. "I have to take this."
I got up off the couch, trying to conceal my pain. Turns out that Tylenol really doesn't work all that well.
"Hey, honey!" I answered his call.
"Hi, babe. When did you say you would be home?" He asked in his sweet tone.
"I didn't. But I'll probably be back a little after 9. Why? Is everything okay?"
"Of course, everything is good over here. I just missed you."
I let a small smile cover my face, despite the events that happened previously.
"Aw, okay. I'll see you soon. Bye, hun."
"See you soon." He hung up.
"Was that John?" Chandler asks.
"Yup, it was." I replied.
"Oh, that's your boyfriend, right?" Jimmy asked.
"Of almost a year." Chandler says for me, shooting me a huge grin.
He was happy that I was finally in what seemed to be a stable relationship to everyone, including me. He was there for me, for every step of the relationship. Besides the parts I just couldn't tell him, or anyone for that matter.
I sent back a smile, happy that we were both content.
"Oh, you should invite him to our game night next week! I need to approve of him." Jimmy insisted.
"Me too! I haven't actually met him in person yet, only over a voice call, and that was short." Karl.
"Okay, okay. I'll ask him when I go home."
Time flew by quickly with Karl and Jimmy there. It made me want to stay with them, to not go home. I know it's wrong. I enjoy my time with John. I know he loves me, but I feel so much better with these guys. They're my family. They feel more like home than my own apartment does.
We're all just sitting on the couch playing Mario Kart on the Nintendo Switch when Karl gets a FaceTime from Foolish.
"The queen of Mario Kart strikes again," I say, winning yet another race.
"You're with a girl, Karl? Why didn't you tell me that?!" The voice comes from Karl's speaker.
"You didn't know?" He asks.
"No, how would I have known? You never informed me of this event." Karl giggled.
"Hi, best friend!" I exclaimed into the phone.
"Bestie! Karl, you didn't tell me it was y/n!"
"You never let me explain anything. You just kept acting all betrayed."
"Oh, please. We all know that you're just dramatic." Foolish snapped back in a joking manner, which earned a fake cry from Karl.
"This is my cue to leave." I laughed and looked at the time. I really did need to leave. It was 9:18.
I said my goodbyes to Jimmy, Karl, and Foolish.
"Bye, Chandler." I said while going in for a hug.
"Bye, y/n/n. I love you. And remember to invite John to our game night on Tuesday."
"Of course. Love you too!" I got in my car and started my drive back home.
