☆.。.:*THE CAFETERIA WAS LOUD WITH CHATTERING VOICES.
heidi and wally sat in a round table, picking at some chicken nuggets that heidi stole.
"this doesn't even taste like chicken." heidi said. "how did i ever eat these?"
wally nodded, his upper lip turning upwards in disgust. "i have absolutely no clue, these taste like shit." he threw his fork down onto the tray. "i can't eat this."
"more for me."
"you're disgusting." charley said.
"eh. i can live with it." she shrugged. "or— die with it? i don't know."
"god."
"what? i've eaten worse. have you tried their tomato soup?" heidi asked.
"sadly yes."
heidi quietly giggled.
"shit, it's time for group." heidi cursed, not wanting to be late.
"oh damn, lets go then." wally stood up, making way for heidi. "after you, m'lady."
"why thank you." heidi said, standing up.
-
despite thinking they were going to be late, they were a few minutes early. the only people that had actually arrived yet were rhonda— and obviously mr. martin.
the two took a seat, waiting for charley to come.
he arrived not long after, next to him was a face that heidi didn't recgonice. next to him was someone new.
once they sat down, mr. martin spoke up.
"it looks like we have a new face today!" he said. "why don't you introduce yourself?"
"okay, my name's madison nears— but everyone calls me maddie" she infomed.
mr. martin nodded. "tell us a little bit about yourself."
"what do you want to know?' she asked.
"you can start with how your day has been, or tell us a little bit about—"
"how'd you die?" rhonda asked, completely interrupting mr. martin in an annoyed tone.
"okay, rhonda, i don't think that's a question that maddie wants to jump into—" mr. martin says, before being cut off by maddie.
"i don't exactly know." maddie replied. "one second i was in study hall, the next thing i knew i'm sitting in a therapy group for ghosts."
"that's literally exactly what i said when i got here!" heidi exclaimed.
"oh, so you were murdered." rhonda says.
maddie shrugged. "i think so."
"what do you mean you don't remember what happened to you?" heidi asked.
"alright everyone, let's just go around and introduce ourselves first—" mr. martin tried to redirect the conversation.
"what do you mean what do i mean? am i supposed to know what happened? is it weird that i don't?"
charley nodded his head. "yeah, not knowing is kind of unheard of around here."
maddie cursed under her breath.
"so, what do you remember, cherry pop?" rhonda asked.
"anyways." mr. martin boomed, finally gaining the rest of the group's attention. "maddie, welcome to the afterlife support group. it takes a lot of courage to come here."
-
heidi couldn't imagine not knowing what happened to her. she thought that it would eat her alive. she felt awful for maddie's current situation.
heidi stood in the hallway, after the session ended, eavesdropping on student's current conversations.
"heidi!" she heard a voice say beside her. she jumped, whipping her head to her right.
wally laughed, placing his hands on her shoulders. "sorry, heids, i didnt mean to scare you."
heidi pushed him. "you totally meant to scare me."
the tall brunette shrugged. "i guess we'll never know."
"trust me, i know." she scoffed, sarcastically rolling her eyes. "i hate you. you suck."
wally shrugged his shoulders, chuckling. "i doubt that."
heidi smiled at him. she knew he was right.
"hey, do you want to get something to eat?"
heidi nodded. "god yes, i love food."
heidi and wally walked side by side down the hallway, discussing anything and everything that came to their minds. they discussed their lives, movies, celebrities, different trends that they've seen around the high school.
heidi appreciated that talking to wally was so easy. it was like a breath of fresh air. heidi had never felt so comfortable around someone in her entire existence.
