SOMETIMES he would feel her drift out of reality with him and go back to places she had been to before. It made him frantic the more it happened; he wanted to reel her back in. Back into his arms, back to bed instead of crying in the kitchen all by herself. It was like fighting an invisible force to keep her. And he would never give up the fight.

“Sabrina, come on. It's cold in there.” He coaxed her towards the dark passage where he stood watching her fumble to wipe her tears with her back facing him.

She kept her head low as she murmured in agreement and stumbled into his awaiting arms. He held her tightly and stayed close as she walked back to their bedroom.

The bed was cold when they climbed onto it, his hands found hers beneath the sheets and he intertwined their fingers. She kept silent and shifted into his chest. They fell asleep that way and Noah hoped she dreamed of him and no one else.

Her eyelashes fluttered when he placed a kiss on her cheek before he left.

Noah had made it a tradition to buy her flowers on his way home from his 4PM class, with a note that read 'With all my love...' because it was all too obvious that she had stolen his heart and held it between her hands. She dug nails into it each time she drifted away, an unconscious action driven by the storm in her head.

And when he came home he found her curled up on the couch with her eyes shut tightly, her face contorted in pain. She said nothing to him even as she felt his hand brushing over her hair. A familiar position was what it was

Instead of forcing his affections on her, he just watched her silently and reminded himself that even as his heart ached to tell her how much she hurt him with all the ways she hurt herself; that it was all for love.

And that was worth all the pain. Right?
