Chapter 12:Unreciprocated Love

"I...I like you." He repeated.

I remained speechless at the words he threw at me. My mind spun with confusion.
I don't know what to say.

"I'm sorry." I apologized.

"Why? Do you like someone else?!"

"I don't kno---"

He suddenly hugged me but I pushed him back out of reflex. Seeing my negative reaction towards him, tears began to surge through his eyes. It sent a pang through my chest. I end up watching him walk out without saying anything. I don't know what to do...I don't know my own feelings yet.

After that, there was always an awkward atmosphere whenever Shito and I are together. We live in the same roof after all. I asked myself...how did he developed such feelings like that towards me? We're cousins right? A barrage of questions suddenly invaded my mind until I fell fast asleep.

"Hahaha."

Two children were laughing together as they played around the park. That boy...he looks awfully familiar.

"Mi-chan!" The boy shouted beckoning her to go to him.

The girl immediately went after him until they arrived at a nearby lake.

"What are we doing here Sai-kun?" She asked.

"The truth is...I have something very important to tell you." He replied.

"What is it?"

"My mom's next patient is from a far away place so..."

"You're going...with her?"

The boy nodded at her wearing a sad expression on his face. The girl was at lost of words, she latched onto his hand and tears slowly welled up in her eyes. Seeing her like that, the boy suddenly kissed her right cheek.

"Huh?"

"I know, it's lonely without you too." He said.

"Really?"

"Why don't we put it like this, when we grow up, let's get married so that we wouldn't have to be separated."

"....okay."

"That's a promise okay?" They did the pinkie swear and both smiled at each other after that.

"Mei...are you ready for school?" Shito asked me as he knocked at the door of my room.

"Yes, let's go." I answered.

That was our only conversation this morning, silence began to stretch between us.
After what happened yesterday, we can't seem to act as usual as always. A lot of questions are still surfacing my mind until now. If this goes on, we'll end up fighting and I don't want that.

This confusions should be solved quickly. Shito is my only family near to me right now.
We didn't talk to each other when we got to school either. Maybe he's angry at me already because of that. When I got to our classroom I saw Saito reading a book and I thought that this would be a great chance to thank him in person. I quickly went to my desk since we're seat mates after all.

"Sa--"

Before I could say anything, he suddenly interrupted me.

"You don't have to force yourself to talk to me, I'm just your friend from your past. There's nothing special about it. And about me rescuing you, you don't have to thank me either. My mom is a doctor so it's only natural for me to rescue someone too."

No...that's not it..I'm not trying to talk to him because I feel obliged to. I've never thought of it like that. What is he saying? What does he gain from acting cold again?
