THURSDAY, JUNE 13th
"C'mon, girl. Just step out wit'a gyal!" Romane pushed.
"Mmm," Marjan uneasily nodded her head, finally giving in to Romane. She had been begging Marjan to come to this block party with her for the past few hours and even though she wasn't up to it, she didn't want Romane to go alone and have something end up happening to her. She would feel terrible if that were to happen, knowing that she could have been there to prevent it. "Fine."
"Thank you, thank you, girl. You dunno how happy ya' just made me! I love you fa' dis ma!"
"Fa what?" Kemontae asked, making himself appear in the door frame of Marjan's room, making eye contact with her.
"For finally agreeing to going out wit' me tonight." Romane said, smiling at Marjan, who was busy staring back at Montae. "Oookay, I'm gonna go now. Y'all making this weird."
She collected her things and made her way out of the room, playfully bumping into Kemontae who still paid her no attention.
"Well then," she scoffed. "Bye Mar."
Marjan broke the stare-off and waved at Romane, throwing her a smile. "See you tonight, I'll text you."
Kemontae gave the two a weird look; they were talking to each other as if they didn't live in the same house, just on two different floors. Marjan stood up as soon Romane disappeared down the hallway. She went to her walk-in closet that was now filled up with clothes and shoes, and flickered on the light, looking to find something for the block party tonight.
Romane hadn't given her a specific dress code but she had attended a party before, so she knew what was appropriate and what wasn't. It wasn't like she knew anyone, but then again she didn't want anyone she didn't know to think anything negative about her.
"What'ya doin?" Montae asked, making her look back. As usual, he was laid out in her bed, under her bed sheets.
"Looking."
"I can see that, stupid. But what the fuck you lookin' fa?"
She glared at him, for calling her stupid, but just rolled her eyes and continued looking. "An outfit for the block party, duh."
"You ain't going to dat shit."
"And why aren't I?" She questioned, putting the little black dress that she had just picked up back on the rack. Marjan turned to face Kemontae, who replied with a simple shrug. "No, that is not an answer, why not?"
"'Cause."
Marjan chuckled at Montae and continued searching her closet for a dress. "Honey, 'Cause', is not an answer, therefore, I'm going."
He groaned and threw his head back onto her pillow. "Cause ion want you ta go." He mumbled, placing a pillow on top of his face.
"Because what?" Marjan questioned, walking towards her bed so she could hear him better.
"Nigga, I said because I dun' want'ya ta go!"
Marjan smiled at Kemontae and climbed on top of her bed, then straddled Kemontae's waist and leaned down so that her head was on his chest. She wasn't sure why she'd done what she just did, but something about them two being alone gave her some type of security that she could just act on impulse and everything would fall into place.
