Ingrid POV
"So, basically what happened yesterday was all Kat's fault?" Daria asked, once I was done explaining to her about my, erm, wild night out.
"Well no, she just invited me, but she didn't make me drink or whatever..." I quipped, suddenly defensive of Kat, although a few days ago I would've blamed her as well. Guess I'm kind of a hypocrite.
Daria raised her eyebrows, her expression one of disdain and disbelief, but also of hatred towards Kat.
I knew exactly why Daria disliked her so much. It's all because last year, in the summer, we were staying with Kat on her family's double story beach house.
Daria had met a boy in the area, his name was Alwan, and he was visiting from a country in the Caribbean.
He was tall, and towered over all of us, he had long, strong limbs, he was toned and when we went swimming, the water would glisten off of his back, the muscles flexing with his every move.
He was tall, dark, and beautiful so it's really no surprise Daria liked him so much.
She liked to hang out with him, sometimes they'd simply sit in the netted hammocks tied to the tropical palms and just talk for ages, the sound of waves and distant music floating in the air.
On one particular day, Daria and I had gone to watch a surfing competition, mostly because I wanted to check out the cute surfers.
Kat had said that she didn't want to go, surfers were too hard to seduce, so she stayed in.Each day at around 5pm, Alwan would come around to see Daria. I guess this time we were too late.
The lights were off in the house when we arrived again, but a quick trip to the back showed us that the place was not empty.
Alwan was leaning against a tree, Kat nimbly placing a kiss on his cheek.
Daria wouldn't talk to either one of them for the rest of the trip.
Back in present I felt hugely sorry for Daria, but it was in Kat's nature. Not that I was excusing her, but it was a while ago. However, I understood the blame she put on Kat, but it wasn't actually her fault.
"It's good that dude took you home though. The other guy sounded like a douchebag. And what sort of fuckboy name is Ace? Seriously?" She bitched, with a slight sense of laughter in her voice.
I shake my head, "No, he was great! A little bolder than i'm used to, but he's good. I guess..." I grew uncertain towards the end of my comment.
I mean, I didn't really know him that well, but he just seemed so exciting and fun! I felt vulnerable, sure, but it was a good kind of vulnerable. That exists, right?
"You're too naive. Who knows what he'd have done!" Daria nudged me once we were out of the car.
"Ok, now you're starting to sound like me!" I whisper-yell.
"Ugh! Never say anything like that again!"
"Well, it's true, now shut up. Get to class, I have to get to my friend." I spot Kat leaning on the pillars at the front of the school, and I shoot her as much of a smile I can muster, but she only scowls in return and crosses her hands over her chest.
"With friends like Kat, who needs enemies?" Daria's lips turn up at the corners but her blue-grey eyes are icy.
I tilt my head, and shoot my mothers infamous "Don't say that, or I'll be disappointed in you" look.
"Whatever." Daria mutters and off she walks, towards a group of people and I recognize her friend , Christopher, a lanky boy with strawberry blonde hair and a face full of little ginger freckles.
"Hey," I greet Kat quietly, my head still feeling as if it's been slammed over and over again.
"Didn't expect to see you today. Not after you became a drunken mess, made my date take you home, and left me stranded in a place full of creepo's with no quick way to get back. I had to take a taxi for gods sake!" She cries out loudly, her voice cracking slightly.
I throw my hands up to my head, "Please don't yell Kat. I'm so sorry, I really am, I didn't get the chance to warn you. Jason just took my home, I tried to stay, but he was worried or something."
Kat blinks rapidly, as if to see if i'm telling the truth or not.
"I bet you didn't even think of me, did you? You were too busy getting your face eaten off, huh?" Kat insulted quickly, her expression no longer faltering.
"I was too drunk to think! And right now, i'm too hungover to argue. Isn't my state of mess enough to make it up to you?'"
Kat narrowed her eyes, inspecting me, from my still messy bed head, that I tried to cover with a black beanie that Daria gave me, to the black sunglasses perched on my nose and finally to my rumpled clothes that I had thrown on in a sleepy hurry.
"Take them off," Kat commanded, pointing a manicured finger at my glasses.
Sighing, I reached up and slid them off, the bright light assaulting my sore eyes.
Kat's mouth fell into an O shape, but only before she let out a sharp bark of a laugh, gasping for breath.
"Oh my God!" she half-laughed, and half-wheezed, "Oh, you are sooo forgiven!", I swear she even wiped a tear from her eyes.
"Shut up!" I gave her arm a little swat, but I too let out a little chuckle, and then put the sunnies back on, covering my eye-bag monstrosity.
"Hey, how come you aren't hungover?" I asked curiously, taking in Kats straight posture and well-rested face.
"Oh, I didn't drink, and I left as soon as you did, so did Ace by the way. He was really pissed at first, but he got over it," Kat explained .
"Right, Ace. I should call him, I had a good time with him." I smile slightly.
Kat links her arm in mine, "Do whatever, but he seems a little weird. Hot, but a bit, I dunno. Whatever. I can help you try to look more presentable, since I doubt any teachers will let you wear sunglasses inside,"
"Ok, sure, but how?"
"The magic of makeup, my friend." Kat threw my a little smirk, reached into her bag and pulled out a little makeup case.
"C'mon, this isn't gonna be an easy task." She commented as we made our way up the steps at the front of the school.
"Hey!!" I bumped her hip with mine and I suddenly remembered why we were such good friends, sure she was a little bit... skanky, but we did have a good time together.
We both walked side by side, our giggles floating in the air behind us.
