"Today is your big day!" Mackenzie burst open the doors of Alice's chambers, immediately jumping onto her bed. Alice groaned, wanting just a few more moments in bed.
"Can my day start later in the day?" She mumbled out, attempting to roll over before the covers were yanked back.
"Absolutely not," Mackenzie ordered. "We only have a few hours, and we need every minute of them!"
"Alright, alright," Alice raised her hands in defense and sat up. "I'll get up. What's first?"
"A bath," her best friend pretended to scrunch her nose in disgust. "You smell."
Swiftly throwing a pillow in her friend's direction, but she dodged it and it hit a glass vase. they both erupted in a fit of giggles as the pillow burst open and feathers flew everywhere. However, the guards rushed in at the sound of broken glass.
"My apologies, it slipped," Alice tried to hold back her laughter, as did her guards. Truth be told, she didn't care about her vase. All of her things of importance were packed already and on their way to their new home in Norfolk.
They swiftly cleaned it, because no one wants the Princess to be injured on her wedding day. Once that was done, it was time to decide how her hair would be done. Little did Alice know, this would be a very lengthy process that she was not prepared for.
"I was thinking of just wearing it how I usually do," Alice responded when asked how she wanted it done. Mackenzie gave her a strange look and shook her head.
"No, no. That won't do," she trailed off and began to rummage through all of the supplies she brought. "Well, maybe it can. But we're going to spruce it up."
Alice looked over and saw various little white flowers, which peaked her interest.
"How about adding those, and adding in some plaits?" Mackenzie nodded in approval and got to work. After a few moments of silence, Mackenzie spoke up.
"Do you want your make up done?"
"No, I prefer to be simple," Alice shrugged, never being one for make up anyways. Her best friend sighed with a small smile and continued her work on her hair.
"You are the most simple bride this court has ever dealt it," she pointed out, making them both giggle in amusement.
"That shouldn't surprise you, as I've always been a simple person to begin with," Alice said between small laughs. However, it quickly subsided as her nerves began to set in, making her very fidgety.
Immediately sensing this, Mackenzie stopped what she was doing.
"What's going on in that head of yours?"
"I just hope he wants this, and that I'm not just a decision of impulse," Alice muttered out, automatically feeling stupid when the words came out. When she looked up at her best friend, she noticed the raised eyebrow.
"He was willing to risk banishment for you. We can all see how much he loves you. I wouldn't worry about a thing."
Despite Mackenzie's encouraging words, Alice still couldn't stop shaking from nerves.
"You can do this, Alice. You are meant for each other, and the love you both have is so rare to find. It gives me hope. It gives all of us ladies hope that one day, we will have what you have."
With that, Alice smiled and all of her worries washed away.
"Okay, let's get this finished.
In no time, Alice was ready. Her hair was simple, however her gown was not. This was the one aspect she decided she wanted to go all out for.
