Y/N POV
It's the start of a new day at Station 19. I graduated from the fire academy last month. I really hope that I fit into this station. The last thing I want is to feel like an outcast and not fit in or people hate me because I wasn't part of the Station family beforehand. I park up my motorbike safely and head inside with my bag and helmet. I open the door and speak to a firefighter at the front desk.
"Hi, can I help you?" The brunette woman asks me.
"Yeah, I'm the new firefighter at 19. Y/N Y/L/N"
"Oh yeah, we were told that you were starting today. I'm Vic Hughes. Captain is in her office if you want to go in there and introduce yourself before heading up to the locker room and get dressed into your uniform"
"Thanks, it's nice to meet you"
"Yeah, you too"
I turn around and knock on the door to the Captain's office. I try to shake my nerves and keep calm.
"Come in" I hear from the other side of the door.
I open the door and step inside, closing it behind me.
"Captain, I'd like to introduce myself before we start our shift. I'm Y/N Y/L/N. Your new firefighter for Station 19. I hope to fit in to the family soon"
"It's nice to meet you Y/L/N, I'm Bishop and I'm sure you have already met Hughes on desk duty"
"I did, yeah. I hope to become acquainted with the rest of the team when doing roll-call"
"I will make sure that the team do not leave you out. We are family here. No one should feel left out. But I will warn you, I am strict, we have rules. We have drills every other day. Your personal best will be on the board for you to try keep to and beat. I like to make sure that my team stays in shape and ready for calls as soon as dispatch calls for us"
"Yes Captain, I can assure you, I wont let you down. Also, I'm not sure if you have been made aware by Chief Ross about my gender identity and pronouns"
"Chief Ross did swing by and let me know, don't worry. If you wish to tell the team, that is your call, but as your Captain, I'm sure you know that I should be aware"
"Of course Captain. Thank you. If I may, I would like to get into uniform ready for when you call us down?"
"You're dismissed Y/L/N. Of you go. I'll see you soon"
I turn and leave the office, closing the door behind me. I run up the stairs and open my locker, putting my helmet and bag into it and start getting undressed. I take my jeans off first and put my trousers on. I do not want people finding out about who I am on my first day. I want to gain some trust from my team first before telling them. I'm intersex. It's not something you say to someone you have just met. I'm also non-binary. So that means I go by they/them pronouns. Once I feel more comfortable, I will tell the team slowly, but right now, I just want to focus on fitting in and starting my shift. I take the rest of my clothes off and get the rest of my uniform on, tucking my shirt into my trousers and then heading to the beanery and grab myself a drink. As I walk through the door, I spot a male and female who seem to be having a quiet argument.
"Sorry, I just came in to grab a drink"
"No it's ok. We were just talking. You must be the new probie. I'm Andy Herrera and this is Jack Gibson"
"Nice to meet you" Jack hold his hand out and I shake it.
"Yeah, I'm the new addition to to Station 19. It's nice to meet you both"
"Have you met anyone else so far?" Andy asks me.
"Only the Captain, Vic and you two so far. I think I'll end up meeting the rest of them when we do roll-call later. But for now, I'm just having a look around and getting a drink to keep me hydrated. Sunny Seattle can be good when riding my bike but when wearing my full leathers when riding, it is very warm and makes me thirsty"
