"Zelda!" I heard a booming voice call from outside my room. "Zelda, are you in there?"
"One minute, father!" I quickly brushed my hair and put on a robe before opening the door.
"Zelda. Have you seen your appointed knight this morning?" He instantly questioned.
"Uhm, no, father. I'm afraid I only just woke up. Mind you, it is a Sunday. One often sleeps in late on sundays."
"Yes, well, he's an appointed knight. He shouldn't be sleeping in. Remember we scheduled that breakfast together to discuss-"
"The ball, right, I'm so sorry, father! I almost forgot!"
"It isn't a hassle, but it means that Link has to be there, and he hasn't shown up yet."
"Well, let's give him some time. If he's still not there once I come down, father, then we can worry. But I am certain he is just fine."
My father nodded. "Alright. I'll see you in the dining hall."
"Okay, Father."
I shut the door carefully, taking note of the stomping footsteps making their way down tha hall. Once they got quiet enough, I burst into laughter.
Link sat up from underneath the duvet, laughing just as hard with me. "Oh my God!" he roared.
"That was close!"
"It is so hard to breathe under there, I almost died."
"See? That wasn't so hard, was it?" I said, heading to the bathroom and kissing the top of Link's head as I did so. "He still doesn't suspect a thing." I said whilst brushing my teeth.
"I know. But I should be off." Link announced as he picked up the rest of his clothes from the floor.
"So soon?" I called out as I exited the bathroom. "Why?"
"I don't want to get beheaded, princess."
"You won't get beheaded."
"No, but the punishment won't be much better," Link pulled on his trousers and began lacing his boots. "I'm sure of that."
"Well, alright then. I need to prepare for this meeting with my father anyway."
"Right." Link said, pulling his undershirt and tunic over his head. "I'll see you there." He kissed my forehead before exiting my room.
"Goodmorning father." I rushed into the dining hall. Link nodded at me as I walked in, his face as emotionless as it should be.
"Zelda. We need to talk about preparations for the ball in three days time. Now, I've gone about this in a very orderly fashion. First, guests. Now-"
I tilted my head a little to the side to see Link staring at my Father. He looked back at me without moving his head and he instantly began trying to conceal laughter by pursing his lips. This caused me to snort loudly into laughter, interrupting my father. I could see Link's head tipping down as his shoulders shook with laughter too.
"Excuse me?" My father boomed. I tried to push the laughter down, but it wouldn't die without a fight. "What's so funny? Link, why are you laughing too?"
Before Link could respond, I calmed down in the best way I could. "I'm terribly sorry, father, it's just a sort of inside joke. Please fogive me."
"There should be no inside jokes. How unprofessional of both of you!"
"Forgive me, your majesty." Link uttered, his voice wavering from the laughter still.
My father returned to his rambling and I daren't look at Link again or else I may burst into more laughter.
"Alright, so that settles it."
"Yes, father. I suppose it does. The ball shall commence at seven PM on wednesday, in the royal ballroom."
"Yes. And when you're there, there will be lots of people your age. This is for your own benefit, Zelda."
"Yes, father."
"A few chosen Knights will also be invited; mainly ones from the competition."
"Noted, father."
"And don't forget to prepare that speech of yours!"
"I won't, father. I promise."
And with that, me and Link left the dining room.
