22: Going home (2)

"Mia, Kyla said you're going home next week," Miguel said. Before going to sleep, the three decided to hang out in Kayla's room and watch some movies.

"Yup, my cousin's wife is going to give birth, and she wants me to come along to the hospital when it's time for her to give birth. She called me and wanted me to be back before she gives birth." Mia explained. She had planned to return next month, but her cousin had asked her to return last week.

"Oh. We should buy baby clothes before you go back home. I want to give my new niece a present." Kayla suggested, and the three agreed. As soon as they got back to Los Angeles, they planned to go shopping.

"Does Benito know you're going home next week?" Miguel asked.

Mia answered while munching on her popcorn, "Not yet. I'll tell him when he gets back." 

The three watch until midnight before going to bed. After they woke up, they decided to return home. Mia was supposed to return with Benito, but she decided not to because she is now aware that he is seeing someone else. To be completely honest, Mia felt bad and as if she had done something wrong. Even if they are friends, no woman would want the person she likes to see him staying in the same place with other girls. She also needs to purchase a lot of items to bring home.

Beni tried to convince her to stay, but she refused. They used his private plane to return home since he wouldn't let them decline his offer to let them use it.

Benito invited Mia to hang out at his house three days before her scheduled trip back home. She first doesn't want to go, but she she must at least inform him of her departure. Miguel offered to drive her to Benito's house.

"Bonita." Benito welcomed her cheerfully and gave her a hug. Mia greeted him with a smile.

"Wow, someone is happy. Congrats on getting a girlfriend," she said to him. In addition to inviting her to hang out, he revealed that he and Kendall are now together. She also happened to read numerous articles regarding their relationship online.

"Thank you. Come in." he said, and both of them walked towards the living room.

"How are you these days? I haven't seen you in four days." Benito asked as soon as they sat down.

Mia replied, "I'm good. We went to a lot of places and went shopping."

"Yeah. I saw your post on Instagram." Benito said.

Mia considered telling him right away why she had visited his home. "I want to tell you something." she said.

Benito examined her expression. He sensed that she was about to tell him something that he wouldn't like. "Yeah. Sure." he replied.

"I am going home in 3 days." Mia said frankly.

He is right. He didn't like what she just said. The two of them went silent for almost a minute before Beni broke the silence. With a frown, he asked, "You're going home?"  He's feeling a little uneasy right now.

"Yes." she replied, and all of a sudden, the happy atmosphere around them was gone. Benito was definitely stunned to learn that Mia was leaving. They'd been hanging out for months, and he almost forgot she wasn't from here.

"Wow. I did not expect that. Why so soon?" he asked.

"I told you my cousin is about to give birth, right? It might happen in the next week or so. My cousin-in-law wanted me to go back before the baby is born." She honestly told him.

"I need to go back to PR tomorrow, which sucks, so I won't be able to see you off. I guess this is the last time?" he stated, and he does feel sad about her leaving. Mia is also feeling sad.

"When you return, you have to tell me. Don't ghost me after you go back home. Keep in touch." Benito told her.

Mia chuckled, "I won't. I should be telling you that though."

He assured her, "I won't." but she wasn't convinced. After all, he is a celebrity and already has a girlfriend. She therefore didn't have high hopes for him. She believes there's a chance he'll forget about her after a few months.

Mia told him that she couldn't stay any longer and that she had to leave. To be completely honest, Benito was a little disappointed. He wanted to spend more time with her. If he could cancel his appointment, he would, but he couldn't. She took out the gift she had made for him before leaving. She gave him the bracelet and said, "I've got something for you. I noticed that you like wearing handmade stuff."

"It's cheap though, so don't expect too much. I saw this store that sells handmade jewelry, so I bought the materials and made one for you. I'm assuming that you already have everything, and my effort is all I can offer." She added, and he took the bracelet from her hand.

He began checking the design and he likes it. Because he likes this sort of handcrafted goods, he is appreciative of her present. It's not from an expensive brand, but the fact that it was handcrafted by Mia, it made it even more meaningful.

"You can wear it as an anklet or a bracelet, depending on your preference." Mia continued.

"Thank you. What gift would you like?" he genuinely asked. He really wants to give her something in return.

She immediately refuted, saying, "Oh, no, no. I'm not giving you a gift to get a gift in return. That's just a thank-you gift for everything you've done. It's my way of showing my appreciation, but it's cheap, so I'm worried. I was actually planning on choosing a gift for you, like a local product back home, and I'll send it to you."

Before hugging and kissing her cheek, he replied, "I like it. Thank you." She was pleased that he appreciated her gift. She was even happier when he knelt and wore it on his ankle.

She did not stay too long because Miguel is still waiting for her outside. She said good bye to Beni before going outside. Beni walked her outside and watch as she get inside the car. Mia wave him goodbye.

When she can't see him anymore, she sat properly and the smile on her face was gone and turned into a solemn look.

Miguel glances at his friends expression who looks like she was in deep thought. He wanted to comfort her but he chose to stay silent. She haven't said anything to them yet and he's afraid that she get embarrassed if he said something.

To be honest, she knows what she feels. She does like him but it's not that deep yet. She feels that Beni is someone whom you can easily fall into that's why even though she felt uncomfortable knowing that he already has a girlfriend, she was grateful at the same time because she got to know that he doesn't feel the same thing towards her. His actions might just be how he treats his female friends, making her misunderstand. She's quite embarrassed. 

She doesn't want to go back yet but she thinks it's better to go home while it's still early.
