Marley (Present)

All I could hear repeatedly in my head was Anthony's agonized screams as the knife dug deep into his chest. I stood there in shock, watching as my best friend was being brutally murdered in front of me.

Without even thinking I launched myself forward and onto the back of Anthony's attacker. My legs wrapped around his, twisting him until he stumbled and fell. I shoved out my left hand as we fell to brace myself against the fall. There was a loud snap as my wrist came into contact with the cement, a searing pain, and then nothing.

"You bitch!" Anthony's attacker was cursing as he stumbled to his feet. He whipped around to face me his lips curled into a menacing sneer.

Despite the exhaustion in my body I forced myself up as well, taking a defensive position in front of Anthony's body.

Please be alive Anthony.. I willed him to stay awake for me.

"Playing the hero aint'cha?" the strange man teased as he took a step forward.

I held my ground, staring fiercely into his somewhat familiar green eyes.

Suddenly, a loud piercing wail erupted into the air followed by several others. The man and I shot each other alarmed looks, both stunned for a moment.

"You know what, this isn't even worth it." he spat at me before turning and bolting off into the night.

"Oh Anthony!" I cried out, dropping to my knees. I cradled Anthony's head in my lap as I felt a strange hurtful feeling pass through my body. "Anthony!" I tried again.

He gave no answer.

"Marley!" someone yelled. I snapped my head up and saw the familiar face of Alise as she crept out from a wooden box. Her hair was matted with blood, her arms covered in several slice marks.

"Alise, he's gone." I told her as more pain crept into my heart.

Alise stood beside me, her face grave, "I know you don't want to leave him but we have too, Marley. The police are on their way." she tried reasoning with me but I just shook my head.

"Let them take me then." I muttered, turning my back to Alise and gently running my hands through Anthony's shaggy brown locks.

The sirens grew louder, the pain in my chest grew more, my wrist ached, my body ached. I was ready to give up.

This gang, god I loved it. But without Anthony? I couldn't do it.

I barely even felt it as a large body suddenly slammed into me from the side, forcing me away from Anthony and into the ground. A boot was pressed against my face, smashing it painfully against the concrete ground.

"Officer Garret!" The man spat his name into my face.

I didn't move.

I knew that Jeremy was watching me from the bushes, I could practically feel his disappointment and sorrow radiating from where he was hiding. I could only hope that he stayed hidden.

"Speak!" Officer Garret yelled at me.

I closed my eyes, just hoping someone would end this.

Without warning the weight was taken off of my body and I could finally breath again. I gulped in air greedily, sitting up and scooting backwards until my back hit a wooden crate. I then took in my surroundings.

The warehouse I had been robbing from was now illuminated by blue and red lights. Loud sirens pierced the air creating a chill against my skin. Ten police cars lined up, all blocking any form of escape. Many officers, too many of them, surrounded me and Anthony.
