15 - Mystery Solved 🔍
New beginnings are very enchanting. A fresh start, a chance to try something new. A second chance to start again where nobody knows you. The people around you are unaware of your hangups, your fallouts, your weakness, and your struggles.
But they are also unaware of your character, your strengths, your possibilities, and your person. It was a chance to reinvent yourself, to be a new version of yourself. No one knows you here, you're a new face in the crowded hallways.
Adunni was not fortunate enough to have the privilege of a fresh start because of Micheal Collins, CEO of Collins Jewels and Mo's son. He wanted Dunni gone, ASAP! She had seen it in his eyes, the moment Mo introduced them. And to think she just found out his name today. Whenever she thought of their encounter, she addressed him as the mystery Yoruba demon. That day at Art's Heart she left before she learnt his name that day, but now his name was tattooed on her brain. Never to be forgotten again. Meeting him again solved the mystery of his identity, but she would have gladly stayed obscure.
She mumbled a quick God please help me prayer, and took in a deep breath before she could knock on his mahogany door.
"Come in," he called after she knocked like three times. She entered this office, her eyes downcast. He was seated in his high-backed chair like the king he was. His eyes stared at the papers before him, ignoring Dunni's presence. She might as well have been invisible for all the attention he gave her.
She used the opportunity to survey his large office, floor-to-ceiling windows brought in light and high ceilings made the office look larger and airy. The office had a very modern look, the very feel of the office was dull-muted grey or simple black pieces of furniture were scattered around his office.
His large oak table was the only other colour in the office, before the table sat two black chairs, and beside his table sat an arrangement of couches, for visitors. A fridge sat beside the white wall and a black door sat on the other end of the room, probably leading to the toilet.
Then suddenly he looked up at her with a glare. He eyed Dunni up and down, as though thinking of what to do to her. She shivered, as chills racked through her body.
The evil smirk enveloped his face and was his only reaction, the only sign that he had noticed her shiver. Dunni knew with mind-numbing certainty, that this would not end well for her, any doubts she had about this fact disappeared in that smirk.
Dunni could feel tears pooling behind her eyelids, she looked away from his evil smirk blinking away the tears quickly—another petition to God for help, another deep breath, another shiver.
She looked back at him and he was still glaring at her, she did not understand why he was so angry. She thought back to their meeting at Art's Heart, but that night didn't give him grounds to be angry. Sure she had left him waiting at the bar, but he had seemed perfectly content with the other babe he was busy kissing.
So he hadn't been kissing her but still, they had been too close for comfort and unless she was his sister, then Micheal Collins was a two-timer at best. At worst, she refused to allow her mind to flow in that direction.
His actions begged the question— Why does he hate me so much? Was that encounter his only reason for wanting her gone or was there something else? She racked her brain for answers but came up empty, he was just petty like that.
Nonsense Yoruba demon. It wasn't her fault that he had been caught pants down with another girl. Anger rose as she thought back to that night, who did he think he was? She embraced the rage and tried to stay angry. Anger was better than fear or worse dread. The same dread that filled her lower belly until it began to cramp.
