A Hero's Demon

School night

Coda's POV:
I was getting ready to leave school when I saw Jamie running up to me. She seemed oddly happy for some reason like she wanted to tell me something.

Jamie: Hey Coda, did you hear the rumors?

Coda: No, what rumors?

I ask confused wondering what she meant.

Jamie: Apparently at the high school there's this haunted classroom that's deserted. Some people say it's like there's a demon there.

That last part instantly caught my interest.

Coda: Oh? A demon? I might have to check it out.

Jamie: Think your mom would agree to that?

Coda: Trust me, if there's a demon involved I'm sure my mom will agree.

After that I got home walking onto the apartment.

Coda: Hey I'm home.

Emi: How was school.

Coda: It was fine but I found out some info you might wanna hear.

Emi: And what's that?

Coda: I heard that at the local high school there's an abandoned classroom and it's said there something like a demon in there.

That instantly caught her attention.

Emi: Well I suppose we should get there before your brother finds out.

I got excited and we decided it be best to go after we had dinner. Afterwards we started making our way to the school but noticed my brother, Alciel and Chiho going in as well.

Emi: Dear god, why are they here?

Coda: Guess he also found out.

Emi: Well let's go.

She said as we quickly caught up to them.

Sadou: Oh just great. What are you doing her Emi?

Emi: Coda told me about the rumor and I wanted to make sure to get to it before you so you can't cause trouble.

Chiho: Miss Yusa could you and Coda put these slippers on? We aren't allowed to wear normal shoes in school.

She hands us the slippers as she continues to lecture them but they started to leave while she wasn't looking.

Coda: Uh Emi? They left without us.

Emi: Wait what?!

She starts charging in my brothers direction dragging me along behind her. As we caught up to the room they were hiding in my mom saw something she thought was a demon and was about to slash at it.

Coda: Wait that's not a.....

I was too late was she cuts it clean in half.

Coda: Demon....

She was then told how it's an anatomical model and Ashia was shocked to find out humans only have one heart.

Coda: Yeah weird, I thought they would have three hearts like demons.

After walking for a while we finally reached the room but we didn't see anything except a game console which I picked up. My brothers phone then rings. It turns out that the "demon" in the classroom was really Lucifer after he first came to this world and basically just wanted his console back. Then my brother had an evil idea.

Sadou: You know what Arushihara? You aren't gonna see your console ever again. I'm giving it to my little brother as punishment for all the things you've done in this world.

He then let me keep it as I place it in my pocket as we all went out separate ways. I went to my room when we  got home and a few minutes later Emi came in to check on me.

Emi: You ready for bed?

Coda: Yeah I'm just letting the console charge. But could I ask you something?

Emi: Of course, anything.

She said sitting at the foot of my bed.

Coda: Do you ever regret letting me into your life? Like do you think I'm just another demon?

Emi let's out a sigh before looking at me.

Emi: Honestly, at first I wanted to keep an eye on you to make sure you didn't cause any harm. But, after living with you for a good while and taking care of you, I started seeing you as if you were my own child. Just remember Coda, you are not a prisoner of your lineage, you're free to be whatever you wanna be.

After she said that my eyes started to shed tears as I hug her. She returns the hug rubbing my back.

Emi: I promise I'll always see you as a human and as my son.

Coda: Thanks.......mom.
