“Cherry is going to be ok, she had a massive panic attack and that triggered an asthma attack. She's lucky that she came in so quickly. We decided to keep her under until she is stable enough to breathe on her own. Once she is awake we want to do a CT scan. She should wake up in a day or two. We will come back in a couple hours to run vitals and some tests, if anything happens press the red button to call for a nurse. We will leave you guys alone ok.” The doctor explained to Miss. Tether, completely ignoring me.

“Thank you so much for saving my daughter” Miss. Tether crooked, her voice so choked with emotions that it was breaking.

“We weren't the ones who saved your daughter Miss. Tether.” Doc said, gesturing to me. ”The real hero is your daughter's friend here. I have other patients to attend to so if you need anything press the call button.” Doc said, giving us a small smile before doctor-walking away.

“Let's go see our girl,” Miss. Tether said, draping her arm across my shoulders gently guiding me into the loud, white, depressing, box of a room. Cherry was lying peacefully on the stiff bed, her arms crossed like Snow White or Sleeping Beauty, waiting for their true love's kiss to reanimate them. Even asleep she always managed to make my heart beat faster. The desire to bend down and kiss her was beginning to feel suffocating but like always I fought to tame it. I can hear Miss Tether trying to stifle her sobs as we begin to see the bruises around her knuckles and fingers. She split a couple of them. There was more on her neck and the side of her face, like the doctor said. Miss Tether sat heavily down on the chair beside her and took her hand. Kissing it over and over letting her tears pour down freely as she looked at her daughter. The more I gazed at the beautiful, broken girl in front of me the more I wanted to kiss her, to hold her, to call her mine. When she called me I realized just how much I love her. Kevin deserved every bruise Cherry gave him and I wouldn't mind giving him a few of my own.

“Do you want to hold her hand?” Miss Tether asked, while wiping the tears off her face.

“Yes,”I eagerly exclaimed, slightly jumping out of my thoughts, ”I mean yes please thank you.” I replied, my face going red.

“Course sweetie, let me get up”

“I can just come around so you really don't  have to get up,” I reassured her.

“It's fine, I need to get a breath of fresh air anyways do you mind watching her, if she wakes up or anything happens…”

“You would be the first to know, well I’ll tell the nurses first but you get what I mean”.

“Haha I know, see you soon sweetie.” Miss Tether said, giving me a small reassuring hug before walking stiffly out. I let out a deep breath before I sat down by Cherry’s bed taking her hand into mine. “Oh and Gee?” Miss Tether asked seemingly reappearing out of nowhere causing me to jump like I did something wrong.

“Yeah, what's up?”

“Cherry loves you too, she just didnt know how to show it. Until you were the first person she called when she beat the shit out of that Calvin asshole. Just wanted you to know that. I'll leave you too alone now.”
