"Home"

Sometimes a new friend is all you need.

To fill the loudest silences,

To nuzzle your hand with fluffy comfort,

To catch peeking around corners when you call,

Sometimes a playful life ends much too soon.

Sometimes a lonely house stands solitary.

You can hear the unforgotten patter of paws,

Can feel the gentle nudge,

Can almost see the fur upon the ground.

Sometimes an empty home wishes to be full.

Sometimes a new beginning is fresh.

You voice your impossible hopes and dreams,

Graze your fingers on the empty walls,

Watch as things come together, then fall apart–

Sometimes that dreaded ending can't come soon enough.

Sometimes a childhood cuts short.

Listening for voices you'll never hear again,

Feeling for a hug you'll never get,

Searching for a girl marked your childhood friend–

Who you're told that you have to forget.

Sometimes you move and sometimes you grow,

But always remember–you're 'home'.
