I hate my job more than half of the time. It's not exactly something I try to hide, but I don't normally straight out admit it.
There is a small window between the times where I hate my job and the times where I'm neutral. This is the time where I actually enjoy my job.
Today is one of those times.
I left Finn's room early this morning. So early that we hardly even said goodbye. He woke up when I climbed out of his bed, reached out to me for a quick kiss, then ended up automatically falling back asleep since he wasn't really awake in the first place.
I haven't seen him since, but I think he'll be pretty happy next time I go see him.
We finally have a reason to bring our guy in. We can press some actual charges on him for once. His father has no say in it with federal agents breathing down his neck.
This morning at eight am, a scared but strong girl wandered into the inn where she knew we all were. We took one look at her and knew before she could even tell us.
Apparently, Kaden isn't afraid of the heavy police presence around him. He must think he's immune.
Jenna Bess is finally moving to press charges. A reluctant officer sits with her and takes her statement as Beckett and I are sent off to pick Kaden up. As we walk Kaden through the police station with his hands cuffed behind his back, he looks at his father for help.
The Sheriff gives his head a small shake and turns his back on him, turning to face the very girl who is finally getting some goddamn justice.
I itch to tear the Sheriff a new one for knowingly letting this go on. Adler sends me a look that tells me to keep my mouth shut. He'll do it himself.
Adler sends Jennings and Mills in first. They start with questioning him about what happened between him and Jenna this morning. Gradually, they're going to begin asking him about the recent homicides.
Our work isn't done yet, but it's the smallest win. We have one of our main suspects in custody, at least able to have him talking.
"Hopkins, Beckett." Adler turns away from the two way mirror in front of us and looks to me and Beckett. We both look back at him. "The warrant will be here soon. I want you to head over to his house. See what you can find."
"Gladly," Beckett murmurs, already heading for the door. Adler shakes his head softly as he turns back to the mirror. I hurry after Beckett.
"How'd he get a judge to sign the warrant?" I mutter to myself, glancing over my shoulder towards Adler as we leave. We still don't exactly have solid proof Kaden killed these women. All we have right now is the forming and old bruises on Jenna's body. That's all we have to keep him here other than a rocky alibi and an intimate connection with one of the women.
"Who cares?" Beckett shrugs me off. "We have a warrant." He dismisses. I only hum at that, supposing he's right. Somewhat. "We need to go back to the inn before we go." He warns.
I purse my lips at that. "Why?"
"I left my badge in the room."
