My eyes opened and I was staring straight up at a white ceiling.

There was a dim light shining through a small panel.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw an I.V. drip. The sound of a heart monitor kept a steady pace.

On my left was a window with red blackout curtains, dimming the room further.

I guess I'm in a hospital.

There was a light shuffling on my right, followed by a soft groan.

I felt weak. Moving was painful, but somehow I still managed to sit up.

My eyes shifted to the area the groan originated from. A big puff of white hair covered two small and pale arms.

Just past that, was a privacy curtain that was left open and behind that was a door.

A slight smile spread across my face as I eyed the white puff.

I playfully poked at it a little bit.

"Go awaaaaaaay," The puff huffed, waving a hand in attempts to shoo me away.

I poked a little more.

"I said, stoooooop. I'm trying to sleep here."

The puff slowly rose, stretching its arms out with an enormous yawn.

A pair of misty-blue eyes met with mine and blinked.

Once.

Twice.

A tuft of white hair fell over the eyes and was quickly blown away.

There was a slight pouty expression on the face in front of me.

A young woman with a petite frame that wore a light-blue striped sweater, that seemed to be two sizes too big for the person wearing it.

That white puff of hair is my twin sister, Maria Kuchiyama. Mari, my precious Snowflake.

She squinted her eyes at me. "Hmm—I must be dreaming," She mumbled as she put her head back down on my bedside.

Slightly irritated at her comment, I poked her head a little harder this time.

She sat up and looked me dead in the eye. "Go back to sleep Zach."

I flicked her forehead. "You're not dreaming, dummy."

She recoiled backward and rubbed her head. "Ouch! What'd you do that for?!"

"Good morning sleepy head."

"I should say the same to you. You've pretty much risen from the dead!"

I shook my head, holding back a laugh. "You have no idea; There's a lot I want to say, but you'd never believe me if I told you. How long have I been out by the way?"

"About twelve days—why?"

"Excuse me, but for how long now?"

"Twelve. Days?"

I slumped back into my bed. "Huh—You're kidding me."

She sighed and gifted me a warm smile. "I'm glad you're okay. We did send a search and rescue team shortly after you missed the report time."

Her expression darkened. "I'm sorry, everyone else—They're all dead."

I felt a stabbing pain in my chest hearing that.
