Enid woke up, hearing cries coming from outside off their walls. When she opened her eyes, the girl she was tightly hugging for real and in her dream wasn't there, but she felt a light cold breeze, meaning the balcony must've been opened.
She rolled down from the bed and jumped onto her feet. She grabbed her coat and went towards the balcony. The moment she stepped onto it, she spotted the girl she was trying to find.
And she was crying.
Enid rushed towards Wednesday, who was on her knees, looking down at the floor. Enid never saw Wednesday like this...well, no one ever saw Wednesday like this. The girl was shaking, so Enid threw the coat around her to warm her up.
"Wends, what happened?" Enid asked, as Wednesday slowly lifted her head up, on which were presumably liters of tears already dried. Wednesday out of nowhere latched onto Enid, crying into her shoulder.
Wednesday didn't say anything, and Enid didn't want her to say anything. Wednesday needed to let it all out.
"M-My...m-mum..." Wednesday mumbled between sobs into her shoulder. Enid understood something had happened with her mother, and she needed to be there for Wednesday.
"It's okay." "N-No, it's not o-okay!" She cried even more, strengthening her hold on Enid. It allowed Enid to get up with Wednesday, and she walked back inside, where she placed the shorter girl on her bed.
"M-My mum i-is dy-dying..."
This wasn't something Enid was expecting. She was preparing to hear that she failed, but not this. She felt bad for Wednesday, the girl who was capable of ending lives as a marathon, who experienced some stuff no one ever should've in her age.
Enid stayed silent while Wednesday cried more and more. Enid knew that Wednesday had emotions, but now she knew she cared for her family despite anything.
"I'm here for you," Enid whispered, rubbing Wednesday's back to comfort her. Wednesday continued crying, but soon it slowed down, and after some time, she was quietly sobbing, still hugging Enid.
The wolf provided her a piece of comfort, something she knew she needed, but never knew where to find it.
Wednesday pushed herself slightly off Enid and looked at her face. Enid smiled, put a few streaks of hair behind her ears, and also wiped off her tears.
"T-Thank you," Wednesday whispered, receiving a reassuring nod from Enid.
"Let's try to sleep some more, and in the morning we can talk, okay?" Enid softly whispered, and Wednesday nodded, being still in Enid's coat. Enid leaned down on the bed, Wednesday laying flat on top of her, but she rolled down from her, continuing to hug her still.
Enid placed her hand on top of Wednesday's head, while already hearing soft and calm breathing coming from her. She didn't even want to know what was going in her head now, it would be too much.
///
It was morning already, and Wednesday couldn't sleep much. Hearing those few words from her father was devastating for her. Even though Enid calmed her down, the thought of not seeing her mother anymore was too much.
"Couldn't sleep?" She heard. Enid was awake, and she let go of Wednesday, who had already missed her touch.
"It's too much," Wednesday replied, lifting herself up to sit. She was holding tears inside but refused to let them out.
"I'm here for you, Wends," Enid said. "I will always be."
"...Thank you." Wednesday softly said. Enid sat up, and took Wednesday's hand in both of hers, silently announcing she was there for her still. This was the path she needed to take; make Wednesday believe that she was someone by her side.
Wednesday looked at her and gave her a soft smile, one that meant everything. And at that moment, Enid knew she had done it. This was the real Wednesday.
"My dad said I should come home for some time," Wednesday said. "Would you like to go with me?"
"I don't want to be a burden to your family." "If you are not a burden to me, then you aren't a burden to them," Wednesday explained. "Please, come with me."
"Okay then, when are we leaving?" "Lunch," Wednesday said. "And...thank you again."
"Of course Wends. Anytime." Enid chirped and hugged the smaller girl. Wednesday rubbed the arm that was around her neck. She loved how Enid could show her affection.
Wednesday turned slightly around so she was facing Enid, and pecked her cheek as a sign of 'thank you' and 'I love you', but the latter one she was afraid of telling directly.
Enid was shocked at what Wednesday did. She was not expecting that, and for some reason she pulled her arms off her, making Wednesday look at her, questioning why.
"I...I'll b-be right b-back." Enid stuttered out of herself, stood up, and sped out of the dorm. She immediately headed a few floors down where Yoko's dorm stood and harshly started knocking on the door.
"Geez, I'm co- what happened?" Yoko asked, allowing Enid to step inside.
"Okay, so, I was talking with Wednesday, and, and...and...she kissed my cheek." Enid started blabbering.
"Okay. May I ask why are you wearing those?" Yoko asked, pointing at her hands.
"Oh." Enid looked down and slowly started taking the gloves off. "But you won't like it."
"Trust me, you shown me wo-" She was stunned when Enid took them off, revealing bruised hands.
"I try to clean it every morning, but it hurts taking them down sometimes," Enid said, allowing Yoko to look closely at her hands.
"Keep them on at a minimum, it might heal better," Yoko said, letting go of them.
"Like at the dorm?" "Yes, whenever you aren't in public," Yoko added, as Enid put them on again.
"I can't show them to Wednesday," Enid said, making sure they hid what they were used for.
"Why?" "Have you heard of a chain reaction?" Enid asked as Yoko nodded. "So, if she learns I have these from my mother, she would go and kill her. She said herself. And then they would take me back home, or stop paying for tuition."
Yoko went closer to her, and hugged her, Enid repeating it. Yoko may not be feeling the same as Enid, but she understood her. Enid felt like she was at home here.
"Okay, I'll tell her," Enid said, ending the hug. "I shouldn't hide it from her."
"You know, if you explain it to her, she will still do what you want." Yoko winked at her. "She confirmed a certain feeling towards you."
"Oh," Enid said. "Anyway, she asked me to come with her back home for a few days, so I won't be here."
Yoko nodded, knowing Enid would be alright. Before Enid left, Yoko threw her a pair of clothes that were ready to go to trash, since she was supposed to transform to wolf tonight.
Enid quickly ran out and up the stairs, preparing her speech on her mind on how the bruises happened. She won't be revealing more of them that's for sure.
As she stepped into their dorm, she saw the glass door to the balcony was opened, and looking at the place it looked like someone was fighting there.
"Wends?" She called out, closing the door behind her. Suddenly, she heard snapping coming from above her. She looked up and saw Thing, wrapped in string and hanging down.
Enid quickly jumped up and took the hand along with the string down. She quickly got Thing out from the string and placed him down.
"What happened here?" Thing started signing quickly in response. "Slow down."
'Xavier took Wednesday.'
