Thirty-one

Zaccheus stared at his sleeping mate, who snuggled close to him in pure adoration as he caressed her face, and she shivered. He chuckled lightly when he saw her face scrunched up when he removed his hand.

He felt content for the first time in his life; even the blood of his enemies never gave him the contentment he needed. She was his home.

His beasts were quiet, not talking or rambling. They too were feeling happy and overzealous.

A blessing she is, he thought.

A blessing he could remember his mother telling him about.

He couldn't forget the mischief twinkled in her big doe eyes when she was teasing him earlier. He felt a rush of electricity going to his groin when she unconsciously rubbed her leg on him, and he groaned out.

"Not again," he murmured, adjusting her softly on his chest.

He watched as his mate fell limp on his arms due to the vigorous exercise; he washed her body from the residue and put on his shirt on her.

His lips curled into a beautiful smile when he saw the replica of his birth tattoo on her exposed back, although hers was designed in red colour. The crown wolf showed prominently around the blazing fire with petals around the fire—a true-born Queen.

Their soul and body have been bounded together, and her blood became forbidden for his vampire.

"Stop grinning like a fool!" Ryk commented, rolling its eyes at Zaccheus's grinning face.

Zaccheus ignored him because he couldn't wipe the smile from his face; he didn't care if he behaved like a lovesick puppy. "He should stop smiling?!" Ryn reprimanded, "Blessing to the God that he still knows how to smile."

"Well, whatever," Ryk replied dismissively, "But that does not mean he..." his sentence was interrupted by Ryl while he shot a glare at him.

"Mate is beautiful," he said in a small voice.

"Yeah, she's our little sexy seductress human," Ryk added, projecting the image from the bathroom to them.

"Stop, let mate rest," Ryk said gruffly.

"You know, I wish all of y..." he stopped when he felt someone tugging through his mind.

He snarled lowly, angry for being disturbed when he had ordered that no one should disturb their privacy.

"What!" he barked out

"ehmm—" he heard Zeke hesitated voice.

"Talk!" he growled.

"You need to see something urgently," he could hear the panic in his beta voice.

"What is it?" he asked, slowly rolling his sleeping mate to another side of the bed as he abruptly stood up, picking a shirt from the nightstand.

"The cemetery—" Zeke gulped nervously, "The dead have risen."

"The Deads!"

"ehmm yeah—" Zeke paused, "one of the guards-- a brone was also killed at the cemetery gate and—" he gulped again, "—there were some writings or message."

"What is the message?" he asked.

"I think you should see it yourself," Zeke replied shakily.

Zaccheus cut off the mind link with Zeke as he felt distressed and fearful of his people through the bond before he mind-linked Destiny.

"Leave whatever you are doing now and go guide your Queen," he ordered hurriedly, "tell Trevor to come with you."

"Fate, Time, Alec, meet me at the cemetery," he commanded.

He stared at his sleeping mate worriedly, "I'm coming," he kissed her forehead and left without a glance.

"Mate," Ryl whined.

He waited till Destiny arrived before he teleported to the cemetery. He could not leave his mate unprotected, even though it pained him to leave her.

He was greeted by a worried pale Zeke, "What happened?"

"A lady felt the death of her mate through the bond, and her children came to report. On getting to where her mate worked- the cemetery, we met his dead body. The man was strangled to death because of a bruise on his neck and—" he paused while Zaccheus raised his brow to continue, "he was butchered to pieces. Also, we can't find his heart for now, and his head was hung on the entrance," he narrated, slightly looking pale at the mention of the man's body.

He sent condolences to the man's family through the link as he followed Zeke to where his head was hung.

"Please, don't lemme go," Zeke pleaded, "I've seen enough blood today or else, I'm gonna puke," he groaned dramatically.

The King was expressionless, walking with full dominance as he walked to the butchered body.

Alec stood still with a grim expression as he stared at the head hung on the gate.

He nodded in understanding, "A message - The battle has been drawn."

The King commanded the servants to give the body a proper burial in the cemetery, but upon entering the cemetery, the tombs were opened as the dead began to screech in an eery voice.

The winds were whooshing furiously as the gate of the cemetery was opening and closing; alarming them, something was lurking around.

"Congratulations on your mating ceremony. Our lord sends his regards to you. The war has begun. The dead have risen, the blood is slaying, and the mates are dying. Revenge is screaming, people are mourning, your time is counting, and your mate is fading into darkness."

The older man chuckled sinisterly, strangling the struggling man as he drained his blood to the golden goblets to feed the whiny dead.

He clawed the man's chest, bringing out his heart as he stared at it hungrily before he swallowed it, whipping his bloodied claws.

"Eat his body if you want," he commanded the dead. "Now that I've fed you, I want absolute loyalties and submissions," he dropped the goblet on the ground for them.

"Why did you kill the man," the younger man asked angrily, "but you said no bloodshed till she gets pregnant!" he yelled, clenching his fist. The older man ran at lightning speed to the other man and choked him.

"No one controls me or tells me what to do, I control, and everyone follows," the older man snarled angrily as he sniffed the younger man's neck while releasing a sigh of contentment. "Your heart is calling me, but I need you," the older man stated and threw his body away.

"Don't think of betraying me because before you betray me, you've already become one of the dead. So think wisely".
