chapter 8: choice

*no one pov *

Rengoku's mind

There was no answer to the question only silence .
" Please tell me..." The broken hashira said as he hugged his mother tightly.
" Please..."
" Kyojuro my son , you must not be here "
" What do you mean mother?" Asked Rengoku as he looked up to his mother still crying .
" My son... My precious son , you must know one thing..." She said as he gently wiped the tears from the flame hashira's face  as she smiled gently .
" What..."
" You now have two choices son..." She said as the smile was slowly turning into a frown .
" I do?" Rengoku asked as he melted into her touch still sitting on his knees.
"Yes"she said with a nod . The flame haired man looked at her still having his eyes red due to all the crying .
" What do you mean mother... I... Don't understand anything..." He looked down as he said that .
" My son..." She started as she slowly sat down on her knees making the hashira's head lie on her lap .
" Do you remember when I told that you must protect the ones who are weaker..." Ruka said as she slowly led her hair through her son's hair .
" Yes ...I have never left the path you set for me mother... " Rengoku said as he melted into her touch still looking at her face memorising it .
" Kyojuro...now you are given two choices...."
" What are those mother" rengoku asked with a confused look on this face.
" When you go back to reality my son .... You will either choice to die or..." She looked away .
" Or what mother?"
" Accept your faith and continue to protect others...." She said looking back at her son with a soft smile .
" I see..." Rengoku said in reply looking at his mother , not wanting this peaceful dream to end.

Ruka kept on running her fingers through her son's hair while  humming softly .Kyojuro was still lying on her lap peacefully.
There was a comfortable silence in the air . Mother and son were happy at eachother's presence.

Until

Ruka was suddenly disturbed by a feeling . She noticed the world they were in was slowly vanishing . ' he is waking up... I must tell him before he wakes up ' she thought to herself . Rengoku without any knowledge of this was still sleeping soundly.
" Kyojuro" ruka said as she patting his face softly.
"Mmmm... Five more minutes..." Rengoku mumbled as he turned his head .
" Kyojuro... Son you have to listen to me ..." She said with a light chuckle at her son mumbling.
" Ok..."he slowly opened his eyes and looked at her still on her lap .
" Kyojuro what did you choose?"
" Choose what?"
" Remember I told you about the choices kyojuro.."
" Yes...but why should I choose now?"
" Cause you are waking up"
" What?"
" You will be returning to reality shortly son..." Ruka said as she averted her gaze. Rengoku who had a shocked expression slowly shed  tears hearing this .
" No! I won't leave you!" He said as he hugged her tightly .
" You have to... But I will always be with you" ruka said as she returned the embrace.
"No!"
"Who will take care of senjuro then?"
"I...fath- no i-"
" You have to kyojuro "she said as he slowly made her son sit up straight.
" I understand..."
" Now... Please tell me what you chose."
" I...I decided to accept my faith "
" I see..."
" I will continue to protect others with my life and make you proud mother "
" You have already made me proud kyojuro" she said as she smiled softly
" Thank you mother " he said as he embraced his mother .
" You must remember one more thing before you leave kyojuro..." She said as she noticed the surroundings turning blank .
" What is it mother?"
" Remember once you wake up, you will be stronger than before... But you will feel like a monster"
" Why..."
" You must promise me one thing " ruka said as she held his hand . As she noticed the surroundings disappearing faster.
" What"
" You will only protect humans... You must never harm them! Promise me "
" I promise mother.."
" Please take care of yourself and of Shinjuro and senjuro..."
" I will.." now they were embracing eachother tightly.
" I love you..." This time ruka was the one crying .
" I love you too mother...  I will tak-"  he was interrupted by the sound of the floor cracking.
" I will always be with you kyojuro..." Hearing this rengoku fell into the darkness.
" Ahhhhh!!" He shouted as he fell .

* Rengoku pov*

I shouted as I woke up. I looked around to find myself somewhere else .
' where is tanjiro...' I was suddenly disturbed by a sound from the front Iooked at the direction .
*Click*
A door was opened .
I stiffened.
I was shocked.
I was scared .
I was mad at the person before me .
" Did you sleep well kyojuro~"
