The girl awoke to a pounding in her head, a small dog half on top of her, a bird squawking, 5 missed calls, 32 text notifications, and bright afternoon sunlight shining into her bedroom. She shuffled over to the kitchen, opening the medicine cabinet, and pouring a cold glass of water for herself.

She checked her phone, most of the texts were drunk texts from Elliot, and some from her newfound friend. She smiled reading through his texts, it was so strange that one could go from not speaking to someone to knowing that same person better than someone of your own blood. Last night didn't go how Alia had planned it to go, she didn't plan to get a ride home from someone who a couple of hours ago was practically a stranger, she didn't expect to just click like that with someone who she always avoided, and she certainly didn't plan on letting that person change her whole perception of the city she had never truly been able to call home. Alia never really loved living in New York City, she never really understood how someone could, she liked it but love wasn't something Alia felt often. Love is a strong, powerful connection to something or someone, while to like something is to simply enjoy it.

Alia liked New York City, she liked Central Park, and some of the buildings and the parts of the city she could romanticize. She didn't like the rats, the traffic, or most New Yorkers, she didn't like all the trash everywhere, or the people who go to New York and stand in awe of everything as if it was some utopia.

But last night was different. Maybe it was the fact that the roof was like an escape from the dreadful party, or the fact it was nighttime, maybe it was the coolness yet warmth in the air or all the lights, maybe the fact that she was just high enough to admire the busy streets and people yet still be away from it all, maybe it was the fact that she was slightly drunk, heck maybe it was the fact that she could finally get away from Elliot. But the boy, the one she met that day, he definitely helped helped.

In that moment all was perfect, she hadn't met someone who could do that to her before. But alas the moment ended, and the utter perfectness of that night turned into a shitty afternoon. After a couple of hours of binge-watching Gossip Girl, she got a call from one of her most favorite people.

"Yellow!!" The familiar voice spoke, and immediately Alia's mood increased so much, "Fern!"

"Hiya!!" She spoke back excitedly, "I have some very important news," her voice changed into a serious tone.

For the next 2 hours, the girls spoke on facetime about everything. From the guy named Charlie Fern met last night while she was at some other party, to all that happened last night with Finn, to shit-talking Elliot and everything in between. At 5 pm both girls bid their goodbyes.

It had been 2 weeks since the premiere of Stranger Things season 5, and a very interesting 2 weeks. Alia had texted Finn almost every day, Fern was in this talking stage with a guy called Charlie she met at some frat party, and Elliot. Elliot was acting so off recently, not in a 'he's fucking some other girl again' way, but in another way, that hurt Alia more.

He was talking to her more, but not in his normal way. Whenever they talked he addressed Alia as Alia, not even Lia or some other insincere pet name, it was like he was saving them for the others. He even brought her food one time, from their restaurant. But she knows that it was just the leftovers from when he went with Bella again.

Alia sat in her apartment, quietly a vinyl played from her record player in the living room, while she microwaved the leftover noodles she had ordered. Bean was asleep on the couch and Bertram watching her eat while perched on her shoulder. The apartment was dimly lit by the stove light and strings of fairy lights that decorated her halls. As she ate in silence her phone buzzed.

A/N:

i honestly can't believe that its almost been a whole month since i last wrote something in this book

my respect for wattpad writers who update frequently has grown immensely

im really sorry about the lack of updates/new chapters i was really sick with covid, then it was my birthday, then i had some exams and i feel bad i haven't written anything but this story wasn't my priority. also not me having to re-read the whole book because i forgot the plot

how are we feeling about the texting part? idk if i did it right but i didn't want to write the actual party part so you're left here for now

also what's your fav candy??

luv ya
