Caleb POV-

As I lay there with him asleep, I thought about how he told me he wanted me just as much as I wanted him. I'm also super scared that he'll leave me for another man, someone better.

While I do think that we won't be together forever, I still want him to be my forever.

I'll share him if I've got to and with clear boundaries obliviously and only if he wants to. I moved slightly, and my little butterfly stirred. He snuggled into me more, and his arm came around me.

I listened to his breathing even out again, wishing he would be mine. I drifted off to sleep after about ten or so minutes.

****************************

At dawn, I woke up to hear him in the kitchen. The clock on the wall said 4am. I went to shower and got ready for work since dad's out of town.

When I got there, he didn't look me in the eye. I was confused because of last night.

"Good morning, baby boy. How did you sleep?" I asked gently.

No response.

I went around to him and held his jaw between my fingers.

"What did we talk about? You speak when spoken to. Did you mean what you said, or was that all talk?"

"I'm know that. I'm just worried that our relationship will change. I'll have to treat you differently now." He replied softly.

"Honey, you're my best friend in the world. Things will change, sure, but not everything will." He looked at me like he won the lottery.

He nodded and told me breakfast was done.

I turned to find a spread of pancakes, waffles , coffee, and juice.

"It's supposed to be a hot day today. There's gonna be sweet tea and lemonade around 10 a.m., along with a small snack. Lunch will be around one, so try not get too overheated, ok?" He told me.

I grunted due to the food I had in my mouth.

On my way out the door, I felt a tug in my sleeve, "Please take some small breaks today? I don't want you passing out in the heat." He said, looking worried. I promised him I would.

Sam POV-

I got to work in the house and planned out lunch. While Caleb told me not everything would change, I couldn't help but worry about it. I've seen or heard about friends who went that far.

It didn't work very well for them. I never wanted that to happen. When the sun came up, I watered my garden, sat by the big tree in the front, watching him work. I realized I needed a few things for dinner and told him I was going into town for a bit. He wanted to come with me but I told him that I would be fine.

When I arrived at the supermarket, a man caught my attention.

He was rugged, had a beard, nice blue eyes, and an even nicer smile. He caught me staring and said, "Well, hello. You're pretty and cute. Are you from around here?"

Laughing, I told him, "Yes, sir. I'm staying with a friend for the summer."

He chuckled, " Sir, huh? Someone's trained you well, it seems. My name's Elijah, but you can call me Eli."

I blushed and nodded.

On my way out, he asked if he could help me with the bags. He was old-school, and I told him yeah.

When he was done, he turned to me, "There ya are, kitten. You be safe out there now, ya hear?" I thanked him and drove away.

As I entered the house, Caleb made lunch and cleaned up. He got the groceries out of my hands.
