We are now on campus all sitting around. Where people were talking and playing games, while Mindy was falling into the strategies of what is happening.
"As terrifying as this all is, I'm actually glad I get a chance to redeem myself for not calling the killers last time" Mindy said
"Um I just want to point out that I did say Amber was a killer and no one believed so.." I said to them everyone just looks at weirdly
"Yes Thea, we know you guess Amber and that is why you are going to help me" Mindy said, I smile
"Now, the way I see it someone is out to sequel to the requel" Mindy said
Anika eyed Mindy in confusion and raised her hand
"Um, what's a requel?"
I laid my head on Chads shoulder with sigh
"You're beautiful, sweetie. Lets hold questions towards the end." Mindy told her Anika
"Stab one took place in Woodsboro. Stab 2 took place in college." Sam said
"So what? the killers are trying to copy the movies?" I asked
"That is one possibility. Heroes now in college; check" Mindy pointed at me before continuing on, "suspicious new characters brought in to round out the suspect list and/or body count; check, check, and check" Mindy pointed out
"I don't like this." Ethan said, I just laugh
"But it can't just be about Stab two." I said
"That's right gorgeous" Mindy said
"What, Why not?" Tara asked
"It would make sense if this were just a sequel, but we're not in a sequel because nobody just makes sequels anymore." Mindy pointed out to Tara
A silence fell over the group waiting for Mindy to finish her thought
"Wait are we in what I think we are in?" I asked Mindy
"Yes we are. We're in a franchise! And there are certain rules to a continuing franchise" Mindy answered me, sticking her arms far out
"I had a feeling" Sam said
"Rule number one: everything is bigger than last time. bigger budget, bigger cast, bigger body count, longer chases, shot outs, beheading, you gotta top what came before to keep people coming back." Mindy said
"Beheading?" Chad said
"Beheading" Mindy repeated
"Rule two: Whatever happened last time except the opposite. Franchises only survive by subverting expectations." Mindy told us
"If the killers last time were whiny, snowflake, film nerds with a letterboxed account instead of personalities, you bet the opposite will be true here." Mindy said
"And Rule three: no one is safe. legacy characters? cannon fodder at this point. usually brought back only to be killed off in some cheap bit for nostalgia." Mindy trailed off
"it's not looking too good for Kirby, and Athena's Mom. And that's not even the worst time" Mindy told us
"Watch, this'll be the part where she tells us the worst part."Chad pointed out to me, still writing in his notebook, I shake my head and chuckle
"The worst part is franchises are just continuing episodic installments designed to boost an IP. Which means main characters are completely expendable now too: Laurie strode, Nancy Thompson, Ellen Ripley, Sally Hardesty, Jigsaw, Tony stark, James bond, I mean even Luke sky-walker, all die so that their franchise can live on. That means it's just the friend group, any of us can go at any time. especially Sam, Tara, and maybe Athena."
The group fell silent once again
"What! why me" I asked
"Because not only are you the daughter of Dewey Riley and Gale weather, but you are also the niece of Sidney Prescott, The Final girl. Mindy told me
"Any of us?" Ethan asked Mindy and she nodded Does that mean I'm in the friend group?"
"Yeah"
"Am I like one of the targets? Am I gonna die a virgin?" Ethan asked, I try to hold in my laugh and so did Chad until we finally broke and started to laugh out loud.
"That was a weird overshare, and Thea I don't want to hear anything. You and my brother are so loud" Mindy told us, that made us stop laughing and we gave her a 'are you serious' look
"But that brings us to our suspects, Athena come on up here and help me out" Mindy told me I get up from my seat and stand next to her
"Lets start with Ethan: shy, dorky, who no one suspects because hes so shy and dorky, and obviously a virgin" I told everyone, then earned a slap on my arm by Mindy
"Okay, wait, why am I on the suspect list because I'm randomly Chad's roommate" Ethan asked
"Roommate lottery can be juked you could have fixed it to get next to us." I said
"Quinn. The slutty roommate a horror movie classic" Mindy said, and I gave a chefs kiss into the air
"Sex positive, but thank you," Quinn titled her head slightly looking at Mindy
Mindy hummed
"How did you live with Sam, Tara, and Athena?" Mindy asked her
"I answered their ad online." Quinn told her
"Okay! say no more you've already implicated yourself enough!" Mindy said holding her hand out in front of Quinn's face
"It was an anonymous ad Mindy" Tara said
"Plus you know we vetted her and her dads a cop-" Tara said
"And that makes it more likely that she's the killer because having a cop dad is a good cover, do you not remember how these movies work Tara?" I said loudly to Tara's face
"Are they always like this?" Quinn asked Sam
Sam shrugged her shoulders
"Last but not least Anika" I said
Anika smiled at her best-friend and blew a kiss to her girlfriend, which Mindy returned.
"Never trust the love interest" Mindy said
The soft smile on Anika face fell at Mindy's words
"Okay... so we have our rules and we have our suspects." Sam pointed out to us
"Wait, wait." Ethan sat up gesturing between remaining five form the Woodsboro attack.
"What about you guys?" Ethan asked
"I mean, I think it's pretty clear safe to rule out the five of us who went through this last year in Woodsboro" Mindy said crossing her arms over her chest
"Agreed." Chad agreed pointing his pen towards Mindy
"What if the trauma you all went through causes one- or more- of you to snap." Quinn stated making me look over towards her.
"It sounds like you are trying to pin against one another, why?" I asked her suspiciously
"No, were just saying, what if the thing you got from the killing made you thirsty for more? I mean to be honest here, some of the theories online about Sam are..." Ethan said but was cut off
"Don't you fucking dare." Tara told Ethan
"Okay, she said right though. I mean face the facts, if we're all suspects, you're all suspects." Anika stated
The group fell silent once again and Mindy crossed her arms over her chest thinking over what her girlfriend said.
