It has been nearly four weeks now since Loki arrived at Avengers Tower and during that time Jess had spent most of her time each day in his company. There had been the odd break when he had joined the other Avengers on missions or training sessions but on the whole they had been together most days. They had taken walks around New York their favourite place being Central Park which they both enjoyed but they had also been out for breakfasts and lunches as she introduced him to the various types of food available from the different countries around the world. They both loved books so had made several trips to the Library and Loki has enjoyed his trips to the cinema but mostly he has preferred the theatre trips. When they went shopping Jess enjoyed helping him to select various outfits and Loki in thanks embarrassed her by wanting to buy her a dress that she had really liked in a shop but thought too expensive a purchase. However when Loki had insisted on buying it for her as a gift she had refused then seeing the disappointment on his face when she declined his offer she told him it was too expensive a gift but she would accept a smaller one if he really wished to buy her something. Eventually she allowed him to buy her a bracelet.

Loki takes on board all of the tips and advice she gives him and finds he enjoys her company so much he actually misses her when she leaves him at the end of the day to return to her own apartment. He suddenly finds he is constantly trying to come up with reasons to go and see her. Jess for her part is finding being with Loki far too enjoyable and it is starting to worry her. She has spent most of her adult life avoiding relationships because of her job with MI5 then the mission that went wrong. That mission had left her with a fear of getting hurt and scared of all men on top of which her abilities also left her with a lot of insecurities.

However she now found herself thinking about Loki when she wasn't with him, he was on her mind constantly whether while asleep at night or during the day when she was on her own after he had gone back to his own apartment. She kept finding herself hoping he would need to come back to ask her something. Each time they parted he would lightly brush her lips with a kiss goodbye which she didn't mind at all, the problem was it left her wanting more than just a quick kiss goodbye. Each day that passed she could feel her trust in Loki grow but, she couldn't figure out why that was. Yes he was handsome, yes he was delightful company and he was a quick study, was it maybe because she was falling for him but she had always distrusted other men so much, how was he any different?

As they sat in Central Park in the early morning sunshine one day in July Jess looked down at Loki who was lying on the blanket they had placed on the ground under one of the trees, sighing before asking "what did Nick Fury want last night Loki? Was it a progress report on me like the day before when he saw me for one on you? Our month trial period is almost up."

He looks up into her face, he could see the worry clearly etched there so sits up "Jessica its okay, I know the trial period is almost up and yes he did ask how things were going but...."

She feels the colour drain from her face as she trembles "oh god he must be so cross with me" she can feel the tears start to form in her eyes.

Loki pulls her into his arms hugging her tightly stroking her hair "Jessica it's going to be okay he isn't cross with you. I told him that I was really happy with how things were going and I didn't want to work with anyone else. Then I......" he pauses causing Jess to look into his eyes questioningly "I lied to him Jessica I'm sorry please don't be angry".

"Why would I be angry with you, what do you mean you lied to him?"

He takes a deep breath "I told him that we had been working on your abilities but for only a few minutes a day because it was causing you a lot of pain". Jess gapes at him "I'm sorry Jessica but I know how scared you are of trying and I didn't like to push you so I just said that we were trying but it was painful so we hadn't got very far. He seemed to accept what I told him and left".
