The two hobbled to the front door of the cabin, sunlight blinding Jaemin's vision. He put a weak hand up to shield his eyes and when his vision focused, he gasped.
In a huge forest clearing with more than twenty different cabins lined up in a semi-circle, light shone angelically on everything he saw. Kids ran around giggling and yelling, chasing each other. Someone was flying overhead on a horse with wings. Someone was lifting an entire broken down car while a few other kids examined it with serious faces. Two kids dueled with gleaming purple swords in the center, almost falling into the large statue of a tall man with long hair fighting what looked to be a huge crystal.
"Am I dead? I died." Jaemin murmured in disbelief, the boy nudging him playfully.
"Welcome to Camp Half Blood! Amazing, right?"
Jaemin was speechless. How did he get there? How were people flying? Was he still out and simply dreaming?
"What's a... huh?"
"Here, you seem a little bit... disoriented. Let's start with the minor cabins first, okay?" He offered, Jaemin nodding slowly.
They walked together, the tanned boy still holding on to Jaemin's side. The grass soft underneath Jaemin's still sandaled feet, the soft blades ticking his open toes as he walked on. The light was warm and comforting as they strolled down the hill. It was silent until a random girl nearly ran into the duo sword first, before the boy noticed and pulled he and Jaemin out of the way, panicked.
"Yo! Sana, careful with the sword! We got a crippled demigod here!" He yelled out at the girl, who waved sheepishly.
"Sorry, Haechan. Hey, new guy!" Sana waved, a fireball hurling towards her head. She put up her shield and grimaced. "Oh you did NOT, Jake! I'm gonna kill you!" She lunged towards the boy, who squeaked behind the boy and Jaemin as they walked away.
"Your name's Haechan?" Jaemin asked, cocking an eyebrow.
"Nah, that's just a nickname. My name's Lee Donghyuck, actually." The boy smiled brightly and let go of Jaemin's hand. "My friends call me Hyuck."
"Ah."
"Okay! Starting with Iris, this is her cabin. The Goddess of Rainbows!" Donghyuck presented the iridescent cabin with a lesbian and a gay pride flag outside of it. It was mostly glass and a mist machine sprayed on the windows, only feet away from their feet.
"Why is there only two people?" Jaemin peered inside as we walked. "A whole functioning house... for two people?"
"That's how many children she claimed. I mean, she is a lesbian and when she takes a human form... it's a bit harder to make kids like that, y'know?" Donghyuck shrugged, leaving Jaemin with more questions.
"How did... who's their..."
"Moving on! We've got the kids of Nike! The Goddess of Victory!" Donghyuck pointed to a standard looking cabin with a guy and a girl arm wrestling on a wooden picnic table. Jaemin examined the built-in trophy cabinet where a window should have been, impressed with how many gold medals he found in the case. The cabin guy looked over at the pair and the girl slammed his arm down. She laughed and he cursed in pain, still somehow looking at Jaemin. The boy was entranced, not even noticing his sister's gloating.
"That's another point for Giselle!" A third voice called out, coming from a lanky guy who leaned against the cabin wall, smirking.
"Wait... serious question: You keep saying goddesses, but what are you talking about? Like, not real ones, right?" Jaemin asked seriously and Donghyuck's face fell. He placed a hand on his hip sassily and for the first time all day Jaemin witnessed him without a bright smile.
"Are you that stupid? Na Jaemin, I swear... you..." He clicked his tongue and rolled his eyes. "This is a summer camp for the children of the gods... you know, the ones you learned about in class? Hades and Zeus and Athena and all that? I said we were special."
"I've been called special my entire life and it was meant to be, like an insult! I didn't know you meant, like, superpower-special!" Jaemin's eyes nearly bugged from his skull. "What do you mean, 'gods'? The Greek ones? Say 'sike' right now."
Donghyuck pulled him along, rolling his eyes in the process.
"There's the Nemesis cabin, but she only has one son and he's weird. He lives in a tent behind the cabin, actually." Donghyuck pointed to a gloomy looking cabin, which looked like a hot topic at first glance. "And he's petty as hell."
"That's the Aeolus one, they sleep in hammocks because beds are too grounded or something like that. There's the Hebe one, the Hecate one..." Donghyuck's voice trailed off and Jaemin's mind was blank.
"I don't know any of these ones" Jaemin frowned, looking farther down the hill at the large, grand cabins around the center of the clearing. "What about those?"
"I mean, if we skip Pan and Eros, we're left with the Olympians" Donghyuck's voice was laced with distaste as the two peered further on the hill at the larger, more grand cabins. "Or, the worst thirteen people in the universe."
