It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining, and the subtle breeze make for a beautiful spring day.
After packing a small lunch for herself. Frieda Reiss grabbed her bag, and her sun hat. She was going to take advantage of having the day off from the Reiss & Xaver bookshop.
She unlocked her bike, and set off down the familiar pathway.
Frieda enjoyed the ride, feeling her hair blow in the breeze, the smooth ride that beat a horse any day. It made her feel alive, made her feel free.
She had found this little gem when she had first arrived years ago. She avoided her family, and isolated herself. Frieda was lucky that a Isabel had welcomed her and let her stay with her. The town would become too loud for her, and she would escape into the woods. During one of these escape journeys, Frieda discovered the sea.
She didn't remember how long she stood on the beach, staring at the endless horizon. She loved the coast; the smell of the salt air, the warm breeze, and the feel of the sand between her toes.
During her beach explorations she found a hidden spot. It was an alcove of smooth rock, weathered down by the sea. It was tucked away just enough to have some shade but had an amazing view of the sea. The sun could hit in just the right spots to bring light and reflect off the sea stone.
This became Frieda's happy place. She had come here after seeing her baby sister almost get murdered. Witnessing the fall of Wall Maria, Historia joining the survey corps.
Years later, Frieda was dealing with the guilt of not protecting her youngest sister. She carried the heavy weight of regret, heartbroken that after her death, Historia didn't have anyone who loved her.
Well, until Ymir came along. Frieda was greatful for Ymir, keeping Historia safe. Sharing her love with her.
Every time a new flash of light signaled a new arrival, Frieda would hold her breath, dreading the day she sees her sweet sister walk into town.
So far that day had not come. After the stress of the 57th Expedition, and the numerous arrivals from it, Frieda needed time away from all the chaos.
As she came out of the forest, she could see the dunes up ahead. Taking a deep breath she felt her muscles relax at the scent of salt water. Frieda hopped off her bike, locking it against a tree.
Frieda relished the feel of the warm sand as she walked along the beach. Ready for a relaxing afternoon filled with sun, the sea, and a good book.
Her smiled turned into a frown when she saw that someone had taken her spot.
He didn't notice her as his head was bent over a sketching pad. Frieda watched with a mix of annoyance and curiosity as the young man worked on his drawing.
He had tan skin, and a stocky build.
"He looks like he was a solider" she thought.
His hair was a dark brown, almost coming to a point at the crown of his head.
It looked like a onion.
Frieda couldn't help but giggle, which broke his concentration. He looked up, his warm brown eyes catching her off guard.
"Can I help you?" He asked.
Frieda straightened up, standing tall.
"Yeah, this is my spot. So please move"
